Product Description:

VersionTracker Mobile is a free service that brings all the great information you would normally find on VersionTracker to your mobile phone or PDA. Just like the VersionTracker Website, you get the latest on software updates, news and product reviews. Brought to you by FreeRange and VersionTracker, VersionTracker Mobile makes it easier than ever to keep up with the software information you care about.

With VersionTracker Mobile, you can quickly skim the summaries of updates. If you find a product of interest, you can read the full product description with the click of a button on your phone. Want that product information for later when you are in front of your computer? Email is built into VersionTracker Mobile, allowing you to easily email the VersionTracker summary information and link to yourself for later action.

VersionTracker Mobile is easy to install and you will be the first to have the latest software information. Once installed, you can select the software platforms you want to track. Each platform includes the standard update information you’d find on VersionTracker, plus several additional platform news sources. VT Mobile downloads all information to your phone, so you will have it with you even when you can not connect to the wireless network (such as on a plane or subway).

VersionTracker Mobile is a Java application that is downloaded to your phone over your phone’s internet connection. Data charges from your phone carrier may apply. See the system requirements for phone/Palm compatibility. For more information on FreeRange’s products, please visit their website at: http://freerangeinc.com/products/

VersionTracker Mobile Usage TipVersionTracker iPhone Web App - Version: 2.3, 4/14/2008 10:47AM PST

Don't worry, we have a HUGE amount of love for the iPhone here at VersionTracker, which is why we created an iPhone optimized version of the site, a VersionTracker web application. Currently, you need to go to http://www.versiontracker.com/i/ to access the web app, but eventually it will be the default view of the site when you visit from your iPhone. Check out the VT Blog for more details.

VersionTracker Mobile CommentaryI agree - where's the iPhone love? - Version: 2.3, 3/22/2008 07:57AM PST

Look, we all know that the iPhone can view "normal" web pages, but that doesn't mean it's optimal.

If Versiontracker/CNet (oh, I get it) wants to support Windows Mobile, it would be nice if they supported the platform used much more often to access the web: the iPhone.

It wouldn't even be that hard - just reduce a lot of the extra stuff cluttering up the page and put it into an iPhone-friendly list. They could even keep an ad at the top, or something, and include a link to the full site for details not included in the iPhone interface.

No need to build some Java app - just a sub-domain website at m.versiontracker.com with otherwise identical URLs.

VersionTracker Mobile CommentaryWhy is this here? - Version: 2.3, 3/4/2008 08:57PM PST

I find it interesting that Version Tracker supports the Windows Mobile yet still ignores the iPhone. For example, go to hotels.com and see how they did much the same as is being promoted here but within a nice web based UI that feels like the iPhone. Go here on my iPhone I get the same UI as we have, fine for when I want to do some real work, but like the Win Mobile app here sometimes I just want a quick listing.

    How bout it VT?
