VersionTracker Mobile Usage TipVersionTracker iPhone Web App - Version: 2.3, 4/14/2008 10:47AM PST

JuliaDuncan
Don't worry, we have a HUGE amount of love for the iPhone here at VersionTracker, which is why we created an iPhone optimized version of the site, a VersionTracker web application. Currently, you need to go to http://www.versiontracker.com/i/ to access the web app, but eventually it will be the default view of the site when you visit from your iPhone. Check out the VT Blog for more details.

VersionTracker Mobile CommentaryI agree - where's the iPhone love? - Version: 2.3, 3/22/2008 07:57AM PST

Look, we all know that the iPhone can view "normal" web pages, but that doesn't mean it's optimal.

If Versiontracker/CNet (oh, I get it) wants to support Windows Mobile, it would be nice if they supported the platform used much more often to access the web: the iPhone.

It wouldn't even be that hard - just reduce a lot of the extra stuff cluttering up the page and put it into an iPhone-friendly list. They could even keep an ad at the top, or something, and include a link to the full site for details not included in the iPhone interface.

No need to build some Java app - just a sub-domain website at m.versiontracker.com with otherwise identical URLs.

VersionTracker Mobile CommentaryWhy is this here? - Version: 2.3, 3/4/2008 08:57PM PST

I find it interesting that Version Tracker supports the Windows Mobile yet still ignores the iPhone. For example, go to hotels.com and see how they did much the same as is being promoted here but within a nice web based UI that feels like the iPhone. Go here on my iPhone I get the same UI as we have, fine for when I want to do some real work, but like the Win Mobile app here sometimes I just want a quick listing.

How bout it VT?

VersionTracker Mobile Usage TipIf you combine SSH to your phone - Version: 1.0.4, 11/2/2005 01:43PM PST

Speaking about a system update or a security update, you can configure SSH on your machine, use J2ME/Symbian SSH Application to logon to your machine, run software update from console.

I bet it has a "auto reboot" feature argument (not good at terminal here)

Just a thought. I admit it is really geeky :)

I really liked the application and way it works. No, you can't get all that info easily on WAP (think about small screen). If you have a PDA like device, you already have a HTML browser. Also think about the amazing rip off prices especially European carriers take from wap access.

I like this little app--it does exactly what it is supposed to do, and that's it. It's a neat way to keep your on updates, a very good extension of Version Tracker.

I read the VT RSS feeds in my Newsgator account online so I don't have to keep going to the main site all the time, and this allows me to do the same thing on my Blackberry when I'm out of the office. The best thing is that you get other news and other information about Palm, Win, and Mac. It's very fast.

VersionTracker Mobile Reviewdoesn't actually track versions of installed mobile software - Version: 1.0.4, 10/29/2005 11:10AM PST

VersionTracker for windows tracks software installed on a windows computer.
VersionTracker for mac tracks software installed on a mac computer.
VersionTracker for mobile is some sort of java RSS news reader aggregator that lets you read news about updated software for mac, windows and os 9.

So just to clarify- VersionTracker mobile does NOT track versions of installed software on your celly.

totally counterintuitive, misleading and worthless.

VersionTracker Mobile ReviewMotorola ROKR E1 compatible... - Version: 1.0.4, 10/29/2005 12:54AM PST

...essentially the same as the RAZR hardware-wise. That said, it works as advertized. Concise, compatible, easy to use, excellent comparative bandwidth usage. Nice one-stop shop for checking up on VT. The kind of freeware app I'm likely to use frequently.

VersionTracker Mobile ReviewVery Nice! - Version: 1.0.4, 10/28/2005 07:19PM PST

This works great on my Treo - better than a lot of Palm native applications. I also installed in on my Nokia 6600, and it also works well there and is really incredibly fast, especially compared to trying to do the same thing with WAP. (WAP 2005 = Compuserve 1995, Ugh!) I really like the UI, that I can read the product descriptions, and that email is built in so I can send updates to my desktop to deal with later. One of the better done pieces of mobile software I've seen.

No much documentation, but it's pretty straightfoward. It would be nice to add additional outside information, but I guess that's why FreeRange is selling their other product. It would also be nice if it worked on other Palm devices or Windows Mobile too...

As for me, thank you VersionTracker for this addition to your great service (thanks for making it free too)! Nicely done!

For mobile devices, this program supports too few devices to be of much use. Only supporting two palm devices really does not make sense.

I hope versiontracker did not have anything to do with this program. I would hate to think the money we pay for membership was spent for this.
