Product Description:

Binary Formations Home Inventory, for Mac OS X. Home Inventory is a powerful, yet easy to use home inventory management system that helps you keep track of all of the stuff you have accumulated over the years.

Home Inventory maintains important information about all of the items you own, including serial numbers, monetary value, and insurance categories. You can even include as many pictures of each item as you want. Home Inventory keeps all of the information your insurance company will need in case you have to make a claim in the event of loss or damage.

Home Inventory also allows you to generate detailed inventory reports that can be stored for safekeeping. The summary statements can be used to help you determine if you have enough coverage by giving you a complete breakdown of the value of your items by insurance category.

What's new in this version:

A user from the other other side of the Atlantic dropped me an e-mail yesterday to to tell me about a bug in the way Home Inventory displays purchase dates. When Home Inventory is not in edit mode, dates in the item view are are always displayed in the US format (mm/dd/yyyy) instead of being properly localized (in this case Home Inventory should have display the date using the dd/mm/yyyy format). Oops. When Home Inventory was in edit mode, the localization was correct — so score half a point for at least getting part of it right. A little more checking revealed that reports also did not have the date properly localized (there goes my half point). A new version of Home Inventory, version 1.7.2, fixes these issues

This program shows how it should be done!. Data entry is never the most exciting of jobs, but 'Home Inventory' makes the chore as easy as it can get, dare I say, almost a pleasure! This App has it all as far as I'm concerned, it is all I need for the onerous yet essential task for which it is designed. It caters for all the mandatory fields of information, plus more besides, couple that with the most delightful Mac-like interface and you have a sure fire winner! In closing, a word about the Author, in these days of the big boys chasing the big bucks by every means possible, here is someone who cares more about getting it right, also about customer satisfaction. A definite five stars!

Binary Formations Home Inventory ReviewCorrection to earlier review - Version: 1.5, 1/3/2007 06:31PM PST

My earlier review stated, erroneously, that one could not drag and drop photos frm iPhoto. Indeed, one can, but the edit button must be engaged. This was my only serious concern, and the only reason I did not give Home Inventory 5 stars.

Binary Formations Home Inventory ReviewVery solid program - Version: 1.5, 1/1/2007 06:23PM PST

I needed a program to inventory the contents of my parents' home prior to settlement of the estate. Home Inventory proved to be intuitive, and can be used without the manual, though the manual is excellent. The reports are attractive and complete. The program can import comma and tab-delimited data and so I was able to import a lot of data entered into an Appleworks spreadsheet six years ago. There are several places to improve future versions: drag and drop from iPhoto would be a nice touch. As it is, photos must be exported from iPhoto first, and must be titled if there are a lot of them or else you will spend forever looking through the list to match photo with item. Currently, the same field serves for both notes and pictures, with a button to toggle between the two. A separate field for notes would be helpful. Overall, this is a solid program that does what it's supposed to.
