I have no real problems with new Beta and generally am pleased with its performance. However, I miss having preferences settings--my preferences are greyed out. Is it me or are others noting this as well?

With the new 2.0 version, all users of any OS prior to 10.5/Leopard are marginalized. Not only will you no longer have access to the latest version of the app, BUT AOL has plainly stated they will shut down all streaming broadcasts for any version of the player running in anything OTHER than 10.5.

Their answer is to go use the web interface... but that is no answer, the stand alone app is really the only way to do it. They also claim it isn't good for them to keep 2 code bases... guess they have no clue how to write a simple app like this that runs in more than the latest OS. There is absolutely nothing that I can see that makes 10.5 a MUST OS to run under.

The ONLY plausible reason is they needed help from Cupertino, again because they have no clue how to write Mac software. And Cupertino said they'd ONLY help if it was 10.5 only. Not saying this is true, but it sure seems the only actual reason...

So for us it isn't "free." It costs 130 bucks to go buy the OS that it ONLY will work with.

The DL and install were uneventful. Preferences and controls are intuitive. On my Intel machine, there is a Timer (Sleep and Wakeup) preference. Strangely, the Timer is absent from my PPC. Both machines 10.4.10. I have yet to find documentation re this issue (it's not in the Read Me). So I wonder if others also note no Timer on their PPCs.

The new ad box cannot be closed, but by making the window smaller, the ad box does disappear. Of course, "Hiding" the app after the station is selected accomplishes the same thing (though you will need to bring the app to the front to change stations/presets).

Yes, I would prefer more presets, an equalizer and a reverb, but with over 200 XM stations at no cost, I must give credit to AOL. Now, perhaps they can get to work on their Email client.

AOL Radio ReviewLest We Forget... - Version: 1.2b1, 6/3/2007 09:10AM PST

...it's ultimately AOL. Yes, it's nice that they offer so much for free. Yes, the sound is fine. So why, then, are there FIVE, count 'em, FIVE presets for HUNDREDS of stations? It was ridiculously inadequate even when the application was first released with far fewer stations. In addition, AOL Radio is now adware; there's an obnoxious drawer that opens and refuses to close. In fact, if you attempt to shove it closed, it pops out again, exhorting me to try Blockbusters, consolidate my bill payments, etc.
I think I'd have been better of not updating.

This is nice, many stations to choice from. The cost is great, yea you do need an AOL account. AOL has free email accounts and there is your membership. The quality of sound is very good, I have 2 sat. speakers and a subwoofer, did not have to crank it to enjoy the music.

AOL Radio ReviewThis is a GREAT FREE Application - Version: 1.2b1, 6/1/2007 07:18PM PST

The audio quality is great, the selection of stations is great and the price is right. You don't need to belong to AOL's ISP just have an AOL ID like in their Messenger App which is free as well.I don't know why anyone is complaining when Live365 and Shoutcast are charging money just to listen to the radio.I refuse to pay for Live365 or any service like that which is charging for something that is available FREE of charge. For that reason we should thank AOL for supplying this great music on the Mac Platform instead of picking hairs and complaining ungreatfully. They even supply XM Radio for FREE,what do you guys want anyway??

I've been using v1.1 of this program for almost a year and it has worked flawlessly. The XM Radio channel sound flawless and this is a great, free alternative to paying for XM Radio.
