Product Description:

Komodo IDE 4.0 is the first unified workspace for end-to-end development of dynamic web applications. A rich feature set for client-side Ajax languages such as CSS, HTML, JavaScript and XML, coupled with advanced support for dynamic languages such as Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby and Tcl, enables developers to quickly and easily create robust web apps.

Award-winning features include comprehensive editing and debugging, plus intelligent tools for regular expressions, team development, customization and unparalleled extensibility. The result is a powerful coding environment for framework stacks like Ruby on Rails and CakePHP and client libraries such as the Yahoo! UI Library and Dojo. A single license covers you across Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

What's new in this version:

  • New Sections List feature added as per popular request! Users demanded a function list and Komodo IDE 4.4 takes it further by including CSS entries, XML nodes, and more "Awesome Bar"–style goodness, so navigating documents is quicker than ever.
  • Improved Source Code Control functionality simplifies team development and project management with multi-file commits for SVN, CVS, and Perforce and a new Change List tab to track and group documents that have been edited.
  • Added Extensibility for Unit Test Integration enables you to use your preferred unit testing framework, as support for frameworks can now be added via extensions. PHPUnit, Ruby rake-based test (as used by Ruby on Rails), Perl TAP-based test, PyUnit, and Nose are already integrated.
  • Plus Zend framework support, column editing, user interface improvements, and bug fixes.

Komodo IDE ReviewToo pricey now - Version: 4.1, 5/15/2007 06:17PM PST

I purchased version 3.5. They had a standard and a pro edition. Version 4 is 2-3X as expensive since there is no longer a standard edition. While it's a nice tool, it's priced itself out of the range of the everyday Ruby or Python scripter who does not need web-based apps, CSS, XML, and Ajax. All I wanted was to program in Ruby and Python with decent tools to automate my system -- I can't justify the increased cost for a wealth of features that I don't need.

Komodo IDE CommentaryUnistaller needed - Version: 4.0a2, 7/14/2006 04:11PM PST

This program's installers write files all over the place in the OSX root library. I mean lots and lots of small files.

Shortly after I installed it, things started toget wobblie with my operating system. I can't say that this program effect the operating system because there is no way of knowing.

I tried to work with it for a few days and found it more trouble than it was worth and I decided to go back to ZEND Studio. However there is no Uninstaller that I could find, so I had to replace my entire system to get rid of it all.

whenever i see an announcement like

"Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Windows: all the major platforms scripting language developers use. And Komodo looks, feels, and runs the same on them all..."

on a developers website, i usually pass by on the other side. life's too short without waiting for java based apps to slowly draw their fugly GUIs on my screen.

[hopefully i'm wrong and it's not a java app - maybe the developers have written seperate "proper" versions for every platform].
