strong engine, poor user experience

I have the latest version for Mac - Deep Shredder 11. I found it to be a very strong engine although it drove me nuts for the first week until I worked out how to use its features. The support pdf is absolutely useless although questions were answered promptly. My advice is to wait until you have an Intel Mac and then get the PC version.

I have been using a large number of chess programs while in OS9 and now OS 10.4.7 ... and Shredder is by far the least user friendly and the most problematic.
WORSE YET the software designer(s) were snippy and finally would not respond to any emails for assistance. Totally do NOT recommend this software at all.

This is a strong chess playing program, but it is still in progress. the released version has no help files which is unusual for a program that costs 99 Dollars. the interface is very nice and clean with good set of pieces. The program engine is very strong if you activate the permanent brain feature. The program however, lacks many of the features available in cheaper software, such as anlaysis ( present but rudimentary), database function ( again very rudimentary), ability to open more than one game at a time, ability to add arrows or circle for teaching purposes, ability to play on line etc etc... Once these features are added hopefully in an upgraded release mac chess players should be very happy.
