When the site is up and running you can get better info about your Mac, including what the person who assembled it ate for lunch, at <http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html>.

coconutIdentityCard ReviewNice app - Version: 2.0, 2/17/2006 06:23PM PST

I like the program. It doesn't have to be a PageMaker application to be cool. I really enjoy it.

However, version 1.1 correctly identified my PowerBook but version 2 doesn't. It tells me the range of being built but not where. If I give my serial number it tells me the same thing.

Last, Version Tracker tells me I have v1.1 and I need to download v2. I run the program and it tells me I'm running v2 so somthing is a-miss somewhere.

coconutIdentityCard ReviewDoes not work with PM G5 2,5 GHz dual (water cooled) - Version: 2.0, 1/26/2006 01:39AM PST

This thing does not recognize my system. Maybe because the system profiler itself does not recognise the serial number of my machine either.

Nifty little program, I have no idea why some of the previous reviewers were so hard on it. Essentially not very useful, but it's fun to see where and when your Mac was made if you're THAT bored. Wouldn't recognize my 4G iPod connected over FireWire though, but it identified my Mac without a hitch, and with pinpoint accuracy. Manufactured between 04/19/2004 and 04/25/2004 in China, which is the exact same time frame I ordered it (6 hours after introduction), and where FedEx shipped from. Not bad.

Well it gave me info about my Mac but nothing more then what MacTracker can provide in more detail or just looking at the serial plate on the back of your mac.

Simple application needs some huge improvement.

Didn't work for me because my G3 B/W, G4 XLR8 processor, OS 10.4.2 was built in 1998. All I got was unknown. I wonder why it's only after 1998. I don't think it would have worked for me even if it worked cause I put another mother board in, CD burner, Firewire, Radeon 7000 card, and a couple new HD's. So the only original thing is the case, so I don't think this app is going to read the case. Thanks for making such a cool app though. I'll keep it in mind when I step up.

The Plasma
Uses European date order rather than the American. Should use the default date format.

Reports my 20GB iPod as being Made in USA, but etched onto the back of my iPod is "Assembled in China". It is a neato program, though.

coconutIdentityCard CommentaryNo serial number on my powerbook - Version: 1.0, 9/27/2005 11:54AM PST

It doesn't work on my PowerBook (which had its motherboard replaced). When the motherboard is replaced, there's no longer a machine readable serial number, which you can see in System Profiler.
