SecretBook ReviewSecurity problems? - Version: 4.0.1, 9/16/2008 03:23AM PST

Seems to me like an app with some serious problems. Version 4 released, three days later the first patch, 4.0.1, with the download containing version 4.0.2 ??? What's going on? Security Problems? I don't feel I can trust this app.

Some interface flaws too: You can choose an icon for a new group, but thats all, the standard field are the same for all groups. Funny, same field names for all purposes. Or you want create a new document, choose a template but then you change your mind an click cancel. The new document is created anyway. But with what settings??? Where is it saved, what password has it, and so on.

PS: Don't try serials you "find" on the net, SecretBook sends home your user name via Safari.

SecretBook ReviewValue for money - Version: 4.0.1, 9/15/2008 12:54PM PST

Most of the time, after having bought an application of a certain kind, I continue to try out other similar applications, in order to see whether one of them after all suits my needs better than the one I already own.

With SecretBook, however, which I bought over a year ago, this hasn't been the case, for the simple reason that it has always fully satisfied my needs. Powerful yet very simple to use; affordable yet very reliable; nice clean interface.

The only, very minor thing is that the (fixed) font size in the 4.0 version is somewhat small for my aging eyes; but the developer has already promised that this issue (which for the vast majority of potential users might not even exist) will be solved in the near future.

Highly recommended!

SecretBook is a great application with a nice user interface, great support, and a continued development. The only thing I would like to see is full encryption of the entries. Right now only the passwords are encrypted while the usernames, email addresses, entry names, etc are all stored in plain text. This may not be a big deal for some but a web address or username may be enough information for one with malicious motives.

SecretBook ReviewTime for a new release? - Version: 3.1.1, 9/15/2007 11:34PM PST

Well, I think it's been four months since the last release and it's about time for another one if he wants to keep saying it has the highest release rate of any PM program.
Overall though, it's really good... basically turning it into a keychain replacement, over time, kinda...
After A LOT of digging i found out that the encryption is 320-blowfish w/salt. so that's fine...
also, spotlight integration is unreliable for me.... meh...

SecretBook ReviewAlmost there - Version: 3.0.0, 12/11/2006 05:21AM PST

Much improved over the last time I tried it a while ago.

The interface is cleaner and more pleasing than steel.

Only a couple of points holding it back imo:

1 - The app should quit when the last window is closed.

2 - Changes should not be saved until you specifically say so, either by saving, or by it asking at quit.

SecretBook ReviewAlmost perfect. - Version: 2.2.2(31), 7/18/2006 04:48AM PST

I am looking for something like this util. It looks very promissing and I almost decided to start using it. There is only one crucial part missing: putting a 'secret' (password/serial/license info etc) into multiple groups.

I like to group all my 'secrets' per server for easy access to all the data when I have a problem with a partticular server. However, I also like to have a list of all my serials in one group, which can't because they are already listed under the server group. So unless I want to make duplicate entries, which I don't, I will just have to continue my search for the perfect utily.

All the rest seems to be in order tho'. It's by far the simpliest utility for storing passwords that i have seen and the price is okay (although there are some free utils that offer 90% of the same functionality, like: Vault)

Definitely something to keep an eye on!
