I must give credit where it is due and this is a pretty good program. However in my continuing search for the best program, I subsequently came across, Mac Gourmet. I first didn't try this because it did not have a calender planner for the week or month ahead. I learned after trying Organized Mac that there is a very well made website for Mac Gourmet which has not only a plug in available for long range meal planning but videos which show how to use it. Mac Gourmet is the advanced version of Organized Gourmet. It has everything that Organized Gourmet does not have and the things it has work well which OM in some cases does not. I have revised my rating score down from my initial review based on the relative value compared to Mac Gourmet. If Mac Gourmet were not available, OM might be a good alternative.

Bottom line... in my opinion if you want meal planning, shopping list, and excellent import abilities with intuitive recipe screens which have nice auto fill and and extensive library, get Mac Gourmet and the planning plug in from the website macgourmet.com

Organized Gourmet ReviewThe best of the available offerings. - Version: 2.3, 5/6/2008 01:34PM PST

I tried several of the current offerings in menu planner and shopping list organizers and this for me was the best. It is very intuitive and simple. It addresses my needs which are simply to organize meals for the week and provide a concise organized shopping list from the ingredients. It does these things very well. It is the most Mac like GUI which is nice if you love Mac as I do.

A few tiny bugs I would like to see in upcoming version revisions;

1. change the tabbing order in the recipe edit screen so that it goes to the next line for new ingredients instead of to the directions. Better yet make it editable by the user.

2. Include a spell checker and better auto fill. It should be able to add words on the fly instead of bouncing back and forth from an edit screen to the preferences.

These are minor complaints and should be fairly easy to fix. Even so, I highly recommend this program and for $20, it is well worth it even if only for the nice shopping list feature which consolidates all ingredients. I also liked the white on black cooking view which makes it easy to read at a distance from across the kitchen.

Organized Gourmet Usage TipSuggested improvement - Version: 2.3, 5/6/2008 01:00PM PST

1. Tab moves in an illogical sequence in the edit recipe section. After an entry into the comment box, the tab takes you to the directions box. To make a new ingredient entry, I must look up from the keyboard to find the plus box and then look for the next entry. A little disorienting. It makes more sense to have it go to the next new ingredient line and then when all ingredients are entered the user could click the curser into the directions box or better yet offer a keyboard shortcut to add cooking instructions.
