Product Description:

LANrev Network Management includes tools for Application Management, Change and Configuration Management, and automated Patch Management.

LANrev collects and reports hundreds of details about your computers and software; monitors software license compliance; automates distribution and installation of applications, updates and patches; and lets you remotely configure all managed systems. LANrev's clean, intuitive interface and flexible architecture easily adapt to your network environment.

LANrev can be installed on a single server to manage a small network, or in a distributed architecture, managing thousands of desktops.

LANrev is a uniquely seamless, multiplatform solution, allowing management of, or by, virtually any Mac OS X or Windows computer.

What's new in this version:

Improvements to reinstalling computers

You can now specify Time Machine backups or images residing on servers as the source of reinstallations.
Optionally, a progress indicator can be displayed on target computers. Users can also be given control over restarting their computers.
Reinstallation options are no longer stored with the reinstallation image files.
The command dialog has been redesigned. The Disk Image dialog in the Software Distribution Center has also been redesigned.

Support for Time Machine

The new Time Machine command lets you control the Time Machine function on administered Mac OS X 10.5 clients.
Time Machine backups can now be chosen as the source for reinstalling client computers.

Miscellaneous changes

The Remote Control feature now also supports the Microsoft Remote Desktop 2.0 client for Macintosh computers and Mac OS X 10.5's screen sharing feature.
There are new groups in the Software Distribution Center for Mac OS X 10.5 patches (in all three subgroups of Mac OS Patches).
On Mac OS X 10.4 and later, LANrev Server and LANrev Agent are now started using launchd.
The new MacBooks from November 2007 are correctly identified.
InstallEase now is almost instantaneous in taking the second snapshot when it is running on Mac OS X 10.5.

If you need to do large scale support/deployments, you really need to have a look at this software. The simple fact that you can create custom fields for what ever you want that is generated with a shell script is an amazing feature. Support is amazing, program is simple and powerful. Sometimes the documentation could be better. Giving a total walk through would be nice.

I love LanRev! It is an amazing cross-platform management tool...even if you only have a few Macs and PCs to manage, LanRev will make your life easier. It is like the next generation of the old netOctopus product. Among my favorite features of LanRev are the patch management and software installation system which is kinda like having your own custom Apple or Microsoft update server for your network, and the imaging utility, which lets you re-image Mac workstations on the fly to a pre-set configuration. LanRev also is tightly integrated with software like Timbuktu and VNC so you can remote control your computers easily. LanRev also seems to have the best asset-gathering functionality of any of this type of product, with a very deep level of system detail.

I tried ARD for my Macs, and LanRev just blows it away. The cross-platform stuff is icing on the cake!

Mac Jenius

I've been using netOctopus for several years, before I switched over to LanRev. The improvements are like night and day. Administration is easier. Deployments are faster and more reliable. Hats off to the programmers!
