This IS NOT freeware. Please don't lie about your products, it's hardly appreciated.

fseventer ReviewExcellent Tool - Version: 2.6, 9/6/2008 09:42AM PST

I've used this many times to find what hidden files unscrupulous developer's like to install on your Mac. With it's easy to understand graphical view, it's snap locating unwanted files and trashing them.

Thank you for such a great tool, a must have for all Mac users that like to play with new software.

As for the complaints I've seen:

1) The developer made it very easy to turn off the donate question, if you can't figure how to turn it off you don't deserve to be using a Mac in the first.

2) Who cares about fslogger , once again this ain't the PC world, if it ain't got a GUI it ain't worth being on the Mac.

I didn't buy a Mac so I could be reminded of Dos 3.3 on a winblows machine by using terminal and unix commands on my Mac's. LOL

fseventer CommentaryGreat product, but NOT freeware. - Version: 2.6.5, 8/12/2008 09:00AM PST

Okay, the product is absolutely wonderful. But should it be classified as freeware when the author writes in reminders to donate in the middle of using it? Really. "Donate?" or "Quit" are the options during a session. That is clearly NOT freeware. It is donationware or shareware... possibly even ransomware (if you don't donate, i'll terminate this session).

I really do think it is worthy of a donation, and I wouldn't really complain if he wrote the whole application. But he based it off of the functionality (maybe even the source code) of fslogger which you can get for free from Amit Singh's website osxbook.com/software . He gives Singh credit for it.

So it's a great product. But if you want a truly freeware version (without a GUI front end), get fslogger. If he stops calling it Freeware, I'll donate.

This tool is invaluable for sysadmins, particularly those who deal with software deployment. It will save you a LOT of time, and is well worth a donation of (at least) a few dollars.

fseventer CommentaryTo log to a file - Version: 1.6, 12/16/2006 10:12AM PST

If you're interested in just getting the text dump of what is changed / when, you can run:

$ /Applications/fseventer.app/Contents/Resources/fetool

and redirect that into a file if you wish (might need to run as root, btw.)

Useful on installers and the ilk, that modify huge parts of the OS. Allows you to find most of the 'droppings'

This is exactly what I was looking for to keep track of files that new applications deposit on my hard drive. I've given the developer a donation even though fseventer is free.

I only wish fseventer would keep a log with a list of all the files touched by each application.

fseventer ReviewThought I was going to spend $20... - Version: 1.6, 10/20/2006 06:51AM PST

but then I found this app. Wow. Nice. I have always wondered what was installed where. Recently cleaned/reinstalled/formatted my harddrive to get back 9 gigs of stuff that was on there that I didn't need anymore/didn't know was installed. Lost space. Not anymore. I will activate this app everytime b4 I install a program. Now you can install it, open it and save a test doc to see what happens where and what you would need to throw away if you don't want the program. And this is even cooler. If you don't want the program and its files, click on them and drag them to the trash can. It's that easy. Kudos to the developer for making an easy program that is free. Truly this program helps the mac community. Great Job!

fseventer CommentaryHD sleep issues? - Version: 1.6, 5/24/2006 04:43PM PST

Has anyone noticed any HD sleep issues when running this program? (I'm currently trying to help out someone with an HD that won't sleep on the Apple forums, and this seemed like a probable candidate as mdimporter seems to be running pretty much continuously on his computer and he uses fseventer)

Cheers

fseventer ReviewWow. My curiousity is finally satisfied. - Version: 1.6, 5/22/2006 07:59PM PST

This is one of the coolest programs I've seen in a while. Very useful if you are really curious about what goes on when you click on something and wonder what is being accessed. I've been subconsciously looking for this type of program for a while and I actually stumbled on it when it was subtly mentioned in a Mac troubleshooting forum.

Maybe a more catchy name would make it more noticeable and popular (and possible convince the programmer to develop it more). How about a name like "Revelator" or something. (It's just a thought).
