Product Description:

Touvaly is a drop application utility for making pseudo copies of files, folders, CD's and volumes. A pseudo copy of a file is a file with all the same attributes as the original file (creation date, modification date, type, creator, name, etc.) but with empty contents. You can use Touvaly create virtual catalogues of collections of files which use very little space. System requirements: Mac OS X 10.2.8 and above.

How to use: Drag a folder, CD or volume on top of the Touvaly application icon in the Finder or the main window. Touvaly then prompts you to navigate to the destination of the pseudo copy. After you choose the destination Touvaly immediately begins to traverse the folder creating pseudo copies of all the files it finds.

(By default Touvaly quits when it's done. Use the "Preferences..." menu item in the Touvaly menu to turn this option off.)

What's new in this version:

  • Finder comments can optionally be copied. (Use Preferences to set the option.)

  • The "Stop" button was broken during certain portions of the processing.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Touvaly ReviewToo Expensive (but otherwise good review) - Version: 1.1, 6/3/2007 01:50PM PST

This product used to be free (including the universal version).

Maybe you can find it:
It's version 1.1 (NOT 1.1.1).

It is a bummer that has changed. However, this program IS good enough to charge money for. I'd bet more money could be made at a ten dollar price point (this product probably doesn't need a lot of support) because you'd get more buyers.

Anyway, I recommend this product. Put it in your finder toolbar and/or dock. Then drag.

This is such a brilliant idea for cataloging media. I keep a folder filled with files of media cataloged by Touvaly, which enables me to use spotlight to find what I want, FAST. Glance up the file hierarchy, and there's the CD-R the item is on.

Touvaly takes a bit more time to catalog a CD-R or DVD-R compared to traditional catalog apps, but for me this pays off, because searching is lightning fast. When I need to find something, I open a finder window, click on my shortcut to the Touvaly folder, and do a search; there's no app to launch, and no clumsy database to slog through.

Unfortunately, Touvaly is now shareware. I've been using a free version, which to my knowledge has no place to enter a registration number. I wouldn't mind paying for such a great app, but $25 is too much for such a simple app. Price it to go at $15, and I'm there.
