Touvaly ReviewToo Expensive (but otherwise good review) - Version: 1.1, 6/3/2007 01:50PM PST

This product used to be free (including the universal version).

Maybe you can find it:
It's version 1.1 (NOT 1.1.1).

It is a bummer that has changed. However, this program IS good enough to charge money for. I'd bet more money could be made at a ten dollar price point (this product probably doesn't need a lot of support) because you'd get more buyers.

Anyway, I recommend this product. Put it in your finder toolbar and/or dock. Then drag.

Central Scrutinizer--2008
This is such a brilliant idea for cataloging media. I keep a folder filled with files of media cataloged by Touvaly, which enables me to use spotlight to find what I want, FAST. Glance up the file hierarchy, and there's the CD-R the item is on.

Touvaly takes a bit more time to catalog a CD-R or DVD-R compared to traditional catalog apps, but for me this pays off, because searching is lightning fast. When I need to find something, I open a finder window, click on my shortcut to the Touvaly folder, and do a search; there's no app to launch, and no clumsy database to slog through.

Unfortunately, Touvaly is now shareware. I've been using a free version, which to my knowledge has no place to enter a registration number. I wouldn't mind paying for such a great app, but $25 is too much for such a simple app. Price it to go at $15, and I'm there.

Touvaly ReviewUpdate of Cataloged Files - Version: 1.1, 4/13/2006 06:09PM PST

MyronVL
Seems to work OK, but when I removed some files from my ZIP disk and re-cataloged it, the removed files were still in the catalog. However, the files I had added were added successfully. Is there a Mac OS X product like Iomega's old FindIt for Mac OS 9 where it would automatically update the catalog (with size, removed files, added files, etc.) when a disk is ejected? That was a nice and simple program! And yes, these types of files are MUCH smaller than a collection of aliases!!

Touvaly ReviewMy new CD/DVD cataloging solution - Version: 1.0.3, 9/17/2005 12:22PM PST

Battered Powerbook
This is just what I've been looking for: A quick, easy way to search the contents of my external drives and discs. Haven't noticed the problem with foreign characters messing up backups. So far it's been a great way to keep track of what otherwise had me searching for hours at a time.

I created a folder in my home directory called "External Volume Images" and always save the images there. You need to make sure that each CD/DVD/volume has a unique name, and if it doesn't, be sure to rename it right after creating the image, and that's it. Searching these with finder are super-fast. I have no complaints, this is a great program!!!

However, I have two problems, one of them a show-stopper:
If the name of a folder is not pure ASCII, it is not correctly duplicated, and folders inside it are not duplicated at all.
Also, why not put the preferences in the main window, instead ?

Touvaly Reviewthats clever! - Version: 1.0.1, 9/1/2005 08:01PM PST

very clever cataloging tool, that creates a duplicate of your disk as a folder, almost like it aliases everything except the result is smaller and retains the file info of the original items
i love it because it's so simple but solves a problem so elegantly.
DON"T OVERLOOK IT BECAUSE IT'S FREE, this could probably be a solid DVD/CD cataloging solution for most users

What exactly is the "pseudo copy" of a file? An alias, a symlink, or something else? Thanks.
