A bunch of people have been having this error code pop up when trying to reconcile their credit cards in Quicken 2007. The patch is here:

Intuit Quicken 2007 ReviewKick Intuit's Bill Cambell off of Apple's Board! - Version: R6, 10/29/2008 10:58PM PST

w i n t e r m u t e--2008
If you own Apple stock, vote to kick Intuit's Bill Cambell off of Apple's board. He and Intuit have done nothing to address the lousy state of Quicken for Mac which continues to severely lack behind the Windows version. Quicken for Mac isn't even Universal Binary or Intel Native and constantly crashes... even more so on new Mac Pros. How many years has it already been since Apple announced the move to Intel processors? I could forgive not having an Intel version if Quicken 2007 was at least stable on new Intel machines, but it is not. Intuit is unresponsive to Mac-based Quicken users and continues to peddle lousy software.

Intuit Quicken 2007 ReviewUnable to recover corrupt file - Version: R6, 8/15/2008 01:17PM PST

For some reason, after using Quicken for Mac for many many years, my data file became corrupted. Rebuilding the index didn't solve the problem. I can limp along with the corrupt file, but it is damaged and Quicken doesn't have good analysis and repair utilities for fixing corrupt files or even letting you know what is corrupt in the file so you can delete and reenter transactions.

I tried to find a good backup, but the corruption snuck in before the error messages started, so my backups are also corrupt.

I looked for a decent replacement competitive product and didn't feel comfortable with the two that are emerging for the Mac market. So I bought Quicken 2008 for Windows and now run Quicken using Parallels. I hate doing this, but I need full featured financial software. I hope Quicken eventually makes a good product for the Mac, a product where you can use the data file from either Windows or OS X and a product that checks the file integrity often and gives detailed diagnostics about corruption when the corruption happens.

Migrating from OS X quicken to Windows Quicken is brutally hard. The export/import doesn't work well. Lots of issues to deal with too numerous to list here. The Quicken instructions are terrible, too. It took me 3+ days to do the migration with a lot of repetitive entry to get my 2008 data entered and full securities data entered. I'll just use Quicken for the Mac as my "history".

I think Quicken for the Mac is one of the worst maintained products and a textbook example of bad software implementation.

If only there was a good, full featured alternative!

Intuit Quicken 2007 Commentarypost your questions, concerns, grips and requests... - Version: R6, 7/23/2008 12:23PM PST

afterhours
at their forum:

http://www.quickencommunity.com/webx/Forums/Quicken%20Personal%20Finance%20Software%20Forum%20for%20Macintosh/

The only way we can make Quicken better is to snailmail their senior management, to post on their forum, and to let them know we want better.

The product is serviceable as a check/credit card ledger. It can do simple loans. It can do simple stock investments. To improve it, you need to let them know. Directly.

Intuit Quicken 2007 CommentaryShantyware! - Version: R6, 5/29/2008 10:24PM PST

Oh dear lord, this Shantyware has lingered on for far too long. The mysterious release of '08 for Windows and nothing for Macintosh has me seriously thinking about running Quicken for Windows under Parallels.

However, the instructions on the Intuit site for converting Mac Quicken data into Windows Quickens date are hilarious. Not only are they dated 1997 (!) and run to about 200 lines of arcane maneuvers, but there is - honest to god - one line of instruction that says:

"Insert a PC-formatted floppy disk in the Macintosh's disk drive and copy the Export.qif file to it."

Guess I'll have to pick up an old LC off eBay... oh wait... that won't run OSX or Parallels...

Quicken. The most ironic brand name in history.™

Intuit Quicken 2007 ReviewVery poor quotes support - Version: R6, 1/20/2008 12:00AM PST

The Quotes server, an essential and highly touted component of Quicken for your investment portfolio is currently malfunctioning and has been off and on for six months or more. This is simply unacceptable. I will not upgrade to the next version until Intuit gets their act together again.

Intuit Quicken 2007 ReviewQuicken for Mac terrible for managing securities - Version: R6, 12/24/2007 12:00PM PST

Quicken for Mac ties to a "quotes server" provided by Intuit. Over the past few months fewer and fewer prices are updated. You don't know what wasn't updated until you carefully check prices of each security and dates.

I would not recommend spending any money to license this product at this time. It seems that Intuit has let this product slip into an unusable state if you need to track securities.

Unfortunately, I don't know of another product to recommend to replace Quicken, either. This is a great opportunity for an entrepreneur to take over the home accounting software market for Mac users.

In Leopard, Quicken 2007 R2 will not allow me to create a new online-enabled Liability (loan) account. Upon double-clicking the QFX, it asks to create a new account for use with the online data, I click okay, and it does absolutely nothing. No new account, no downloading, nothing. This software just gets worse and worse, day by day.

Intuit Quicken 2007 CommentaryMore money, less features. - Version: R6, 11/10/2007 02:33AM PST

Intuit, the maker of Quicken, has apparently discontinued a feature in all versions of Quicken-- their News Alert service... little clickable icons next to your tracked securities that link to articles concerning your specific stocks. There is a discussion thread at the Quicken website with many unhappy customers... customers who used this feature who are now being ignored. This "outage" occurred in the past and was later restored, but now it appears to be permanently offline since it has not been working since before May of this year. Intuit's response has been "we're working on it", "we are very sorry" and that's it. Nothing more. The service is still offline as of today, Nov. 10th, 2007.

I would post several email responses from Intuit's support representatives, but it would only be a waste of space as they are singularly un-helpful.

Intuit has the worst customer support representatives I have encountered... all workers in India who speak English, but clearly don't understand (or don't want to understand) the problems you are trying to communicate. They are extremely polite, but completely useless. You have been warned.
