Product Description:

With MailTags installed, you can add comments, due dates, projects and priority to your messages right inside your mail viewer window. You can then use this metadata as the basis for Spotlight searches, Smart Mailboxes, and Mail Rules. For example, you can create a Smart Mailbox that will show you all messages in project: "Great Novel" that have a due date in the next three days. MailTags also integrates with Mail Act-On to allow tagging of message via simple keystrokes, or by rules for receiving mail. For example, create an Act-On rule for the d key that will defer the due date of the message for 5 days.

Works with Mail's Rules
  • Set tags automatically as you receive Mail by using MailTags actions when creating a Mail rule. Use with Mail Act-On to create keystroke rules to tag messages.

What's new in this version:

  • MailTags will now check the indev website for new versions at launch. If an updated version is found, the new release notes will be displayed with a button to open the download page in your browser. (Sorry no auto download and install yet!) This feature can be turned off in the preferences.
  • Resolved issue with MailTags thinking it wasn't registered when it was.
  • Resolved issue in which preferences were not being read correctly leading to a variety of issues with keywords and projects.
  • Resolved issue where tags may not have been properly saved on local messages.
  • Resolved issue where tags may have been included in outgoing mail even if the “Send with messageâ€? check box was off.
  • Resolved issue with losing tags when moving IMAP message to a different mailbox immediately after tagging (ie without clicking on another message).
  • Resolved issue in which rules would not validate and save if the only action was a MailTags related action.
  • Resolved issue with tags not being recognized after message was moved via a Mail Act-On rule.
  • Resolved issue with validating rules that have an Applescript action.
  • Resolved issue where MailTags-based criteria would overlap add/remove buttons when configuring rules.
  • Resolved issue where Mail was not recognizing message: URLs created with earlier versions of MailTags.
  • Copying Message URL now formats the URL in the same manner as dragging/dropping messages in Mail 3.0.
  • Resolved issue where Mail would not accept subject-based criteria when configuring smart mailboxes.
  • Resolved issue where smart mailboxes based on due date is set/is not set were not working.
  • Resolved issue where MailTags would prevent Mail from creating rules via AppleScript.
  • Resolved issue where Mail would hang if the keyword popup was used when composing messages.
  • Addressed several memory/stability issues.
  • MailTags no longer causes Mail to start in the background.
  • Added MT Debug menu for accessing internal information about messages (such as the contents of the cache file) and turning on different debug logging options. This will hopefully aid in the diagnosis of a variety of issues.

MailTags ReviewIndispensable Tool for Mail - Version: 2.2, 3/26/2008 10:50AM PST

rjdbfree
This tool saves me a ton of time. It automatically tags all my incoming mail (according to the rules I set up). With this simple feature, I can file all my read messages into one folder and create smart folders to keep track of email while having a relatively clean and empty inbox.

I also use this tool to create iCal apts from w/in mail when appropriate (it links the email msg to the event).

WELL WORTH the price of admission.

MailTags CommentaryDownload is old version, beta 5 - Version: 2.2b12, 11/12/2007 10:48AM PST

This download is for the already released beta 5, not a beta 12 as it is marked.

Beta 6 would be nice though. Anyone feel like posting beta 6?

MailTags ReviewThe app makes Mail and iGTD rock (also, life a lot easier) - Version: 2.1.1, 9/18/2007 08:47AM PST

I am really confused by some recent comments/reviews about MailTags. I've used both iterations of this program for quite a while now with NO problems of any kind and have benefitted greatly from the organizational capabilities that MailTags adds to Mail, iCal and iGTD. With this program you can set up smart mailboxes that instantly organize important emails (and, BTW, the tags also work in MailSteward) so that you can find invoices, shipping notices, updated email addresses sent to you by business associates, friends and family. You can also easily use MailTags with the other apps mentioned to turn emails into useful and organized To Do's. I never understand why people are so quick to downgrade an app (espeically one with a long history of glowing reviews like MailTags) rather than take the time to figure out what they are doing wrong or not doing right. BTW, I am an intermediate level Mac user with no ties to this or any other software or hardware company.
