Product Description:
With MailTags installed, you can add comments, due dates, projects and priority to your messages right inside your mail viewer window. You can then use this metadata as the basis for Spotlight searches, Smart Mailboxes, and Mail Rules. For example, you can create a Smart Mailbox that will show you all messages in project: "Great Novel" that have a due date in the next three days. MailTags also integrates with Mail Act-On to allow tagging of message via simple keystrokes, or by rules for receiving mail. For example, create an Act-On rule for the d key that will defer the due date of the message for 5 days.

- Use MailTags' convenient side panel to add tags keywords, project, priority, notes to your messages.
- Create To Dos and Events in iCal directly from Mail and maintain the link between the original message and the items in iCal.
- Save your tags to your IMAP servers so you can access them from multiple computers.
- Display your tags in extra columns in the message list view. See due dates as they approach.
- Set tags automatically as you receive Mail by using MailTags actions when creating a Mail rule. Use with Mail Act-On to create keystroke rules to tag messages.
- Search for your tags by using Mail's search field, narrow the search to on keywords, projects or notes. Use simple and/or logic to find tags.
- Build smart mailboxes that search your messages for keywords, projects and even due dates.
- Construct Applescript work flows that access your MailTags data to use them in other applications.
What's new in this version:
MailTags 2.1.1 is a maintenance release to address a stability issue when interacting with iCal and to add minor improvements for Applescript functionality. New example AppleScripts are included to demonstrate the use of MailTags keywords to Growl notifications when an expected reply is received and to kill future messages in a thread by using a "kill" keyword.
Improvements
- Added parent property to AppleScript dictionary for messages. This property will return the originating message for a reply.
- Due Date column now use short date formatting when sufficiently narrow.
- Added example AppleScript that uses Growl to notify when an expected reply arrives.
- Added example AppleScript that automatically marks an incoming message as read if any ancestor message in the thread has a “killed� keyword. Many thanks to Stefan Schimanski.

Fixes
- Resolve freeze issue when setting To Do items for non IMAP messages.
- Fixes issue where MailTags would ignore Due Dates on To Do items when sorting by Due Date.

I am really confused by some recent comments/reviews about MailTags. I've used both iterations of this program for quite a while now with NO problems of any kind and have benefitted greatly from the organizational capabilities that MailTags adds to Mail, iCal and iGTD. With this program you can set up smart mailboxes that instantly organize important emails (and, BTW, the tags also work in MailSteward) so that you can find invoices, shipping notices, updated email addresses sent to you by business associates, friends and family. You can also easily use MailTags with the other apps mentioned to turn emails into useful and organized To Do's. I never understand why people are so quick to downgrade an app (espeically one with a long history of glowing reviews like MailTags) rather than take the time to figure out what they are doing wrong or not doing right. BTW, I am an intermediate level Mac user with no ties to this or any other software or hardware company.
I also use this tool to create iCal apts from w/in mail when appropriate (it links the email msg to the event).
WELL WORTH the price of admission.
