Matlab, unlike Mathematica, has amazing documentation. It's programming language is also superior, and supports a more familiar C-like syntax that makes coding quick and easy. Even its source code editor is impressive, and again superior to that of Mathematica. While Mathematica does symbolic computation better than Matlab, it's in many ways irrelevant because many times even the examples in Mathematica's documentation will not run due to various syntax errors. In every other respect Matlab is a superior product to Mathematica, so for those students and researchers who are looking for a powerful math-related program, look no further than this. It is the best thing you can get probably on any platform, and certainly on OS X.

But it has:
numeric errors,
not all previous documents are compatible with the latest version, so you have to hold version 7.4, 7.6, 7.8, 7.9. It is hell of work when you dont know which document has been opened with which version.
GUI feature is not recommended for complex projects(very buggy).
The poeple from service are very arrogant. This is my personal experience.
