TextExpander CommentaryBroken? - Version: 2.7, 10/15/2009 08:04AM PST

For those of you trying to use MacSpeech Dictate, there is a conflict between TextExpander and MacSpeech Dictate. When TextExpander is running, MacSpeech Dictate reverses certain letters in words that are spoken.

Of course, it is possible that the problem is with MacSpeech Dictate, however, that particular developer has shown absolutely no interest in correcting this. Their solution is that people should stop using TextExpander. It would be nice if these developers either got together and repair this problem, or the people at could take up the problem and fixed it on their end. MacSpeech Dictate clearly doesn't care.

I was a longtime user of TypeIt4Me, the first Mac app that did this sort of thing. TypeIt4Me is really the granddaddy of these sorts of apps, but unfortunately, like a grandaddy it has sort of gotten a little slow and outdated. I switched to TextExpander because of expansion issues with TypeIt4Me, issues that I brought to the developers attention and he could not fix. Basically it couldn't keep up with me when I was typing fast and would expand words in the wrong place. I have only used TextExpander for a week, but I have not once had the same issue. Also, I have found the user interface more intuitive. TypeIt4Me is still a great product, so it is worth checking out if you are in the market for this kind of utility, but for now I have happily made the switch and would recommend TextExpander.

I have been a licensed TextExpander user for years now, and it has never worked correctly, although I keep upgrading, but will not the next go around. I have since added Typinator to my collection and Typinator always works correctly.
