EasyEnvelopes ReviewPrinting Dialog box hangs - Version: 1.0.8, 11/22/2009 12:26PM PST

etearl
Easy Envelope is advertised as OS 10.6 compatible. However, the print dialog box hangs and requires a log out. I contacted Ambrosia Software and received *We're aware of this issue happening to a few people. At this time there's no workaround or update in the wing* as a reply. If you have a workaround, please post.

EasyEnvelopes ReviewGlad to have you back, but.... - Version: 1.0.8, 10/8/2009 07:45AM PST

EE was one of my absolute favorite Desk Accessories back in the pre-OSX days. I used it on everything from a SE30 on up until OSX forced it into obsolesence. It absolutely civilized the overlooked job of printing envelopes. So I was delighted to see it back in a OSX compatible format.

But when I started using it, I was amazed to see that the same inexplicable limitations that had irritated me in the DA version exist unchanged in the widget! You are still very limited in how many return addresses you can have, and there is no way to find tune where on the envelope the address gets printed that I can find. This would not be a problem except that EE often spaces it oddly - not enough to make it unusable, but enough to make the envelope look a bit less than professional.

I also wish it didn't use the klunky and rigid Apple Address Book, which I find has a real problem with lengthy addresses, but I guess they didn't really have any choice there.

But then what do you want for nothing? If you accept its minor limitations, it is a very slick and useful program, and its widget nature makes it very fast and easy to use.

EasyEnvelopes CommentaryAn alternative: Addressix - Version: 1.0.8, 9/30/2009 05:05AM PST

PastorJim
I have used Addressix for several years. I am currently using 1.4.9. It is an application which continues to work and which both remembers previously used addresses and preloads Address Book data, and which includes FIM / the Facing Identification Mark, if that is important to you.

EasyEnvelopes ReviewLove this widget, but not perfect - Version: 1.0.8, 9/29/2009 04:50PM PST

The price and performance are hard to find fault with. I appreciate and depend on it quite a bit.

Only 2 wishes:
1. this interface/control was a part of Address Book vs. an external (and extra step)
2. If not an add-on to AB, I wish it wan't widget. It's the only widget I use and would rather just turn them off to save System Resources.

Only performance complaint I could make is it takes a really long time (10-20 seconds) for my contact to pop up when searching.

EasyEnvelopes CommentarySeems to Correct Prior Bad Bugs - Version: 1.0.8, 9/29/2009 04:17PM PST

Larry Kraines
Just downloaded the newest version. The old one (very old), would not let you type more than 3 or 4 characters in the search field before it would stall. Now, you can type an entire name. It still takes a long time to access the Address Book, but seems to work more smoothly.

I'll try it with a few envelopes during the week and see how it goes.

Glad they updated this. This is one of my favorite, use all the time, apps.

Thanks folks for a very important and usable app.

EasyEnvelopes ReviewNice! Easy! Free! - Version: 1.0.7, 5/2/2008 10:47AM PST

FIM-A or not this is amazingly clean and easy to use. This is exactly what a widget is all about as far as I am concerned. Supports your address book or random mailings. Compared to other methods or software this is the easiest so far. Its almost fun to print an envelope now. It would be cool to see this continue to grow and include the FIM-A support as well as what ever other features would be useful to those that process mail; for me, for now this is awesome!

EasyEnvelopes ReviewNo FIM :-( - Version: 1.0.7, 1/6/2008 01:04AM PST

Nice software, easy to use, can't argue with the price. Kudos for including the Delivery point digits in the POSTNET bar code. BTW, I checked bar codes for several envelopes I printed and they were all correct, (I've seen errors on other software!)

However, it is missing one very important element: FIM-A. What's "FIM-A" you ask? Go here.

Nice compact package for printing envelopes. One question about the formating of the envelope with the barcode. Shouldn't the barcode go on the bottom of the address instead of the top? Or am I missing something that allows you to change where it goes?

I'm sorry if some people have problems with this superbly useful widget: I can only think it must be incompatibility with some obscure piece of software they have installed. I have never had the slightest problem with any version, and I've had it running on three different machines, both Intel and PPC. It's a wonderful time-saver and I haven't had difficulty with any address format. I don't need UK barcodes and I don't think they would be very high priority for most UK users.

Fine if you only use US based addresses however totally unable to manager Canadian, European and Australian address formats and their barcodes (alpha numeric) properly. Please add this in next update and triple your market!
