iRatchet ReviewBest of a bad bunch - Version: 1.85, 10/23/2008 02:39PM PST

My business is service based. I've been looking for a simple app that will allow me to produce estimates, turn them into invoices send them to clients and track payment status. I've looked at them all and tried most of them. iRatchet is less troublesome, less confusing, less bug-ridden than most of them.

It's not enormously intuitive, but once you get the hang of it, it's functional. Unlike the vast majority of the other options.

Tech support is JUST as bad as the rest of them. All these apps run their tech support through their user forums which the developers rarely, sometimes never, visit.

iRatchet ReviewTry it first... - Version: 1.85, 7/27/2008 10:55PM PST

I've used this software for over a year now, and I am now shopping for it's replacement.

It seems as if the software is written for people who do primarily service type jobs (i.e. freelancers) and as such everything is built around "projects." You have to buy into this philosophy totally and ignore everything you know about more traditional account software packages that revolve around "invoices" if you want to be happy.

some things that take getting used to:
* the main window is very cluttered and visually distracting
* data entry is nonstandard, counter-intuitive, fights against the user (tab key is wonky) and generally annoying
* you can't backdate an invoice (handy if you want to put in historical invoices and have everything in one place)
* the search function is not helpful (no way to search by invoice number)
* every line items has to have a date, even on things where it is inappropriate (physical items)
* invoices are based on an HTML rendering engine, which limits customization and generally sucks.

It seems based on the developers forums that development has slowed to almost non-existent and the users have largely stopped asking for anything or needing support...

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

iRatchet ReviewI have to agree, very confusing software - Version: 1.82, 3/16/2008 03:04PM PST

I bought this software to track hours spend on one customer but have to say it's quite difficult to use. I can't find a way to put a meaningful description in item/service field as the field is only tiny.
There is no way to open the actual invoice and enter a full description of the services.

Would happy switch to something better
