Product Description:

Ask passionate Maple users why they are so passionate, and you will hear a variety of reasons. Mathematicians will say they depend on the strength of Maple algorithms for their research. Teachers will say they love the math graphics and Maple’s built-in functions for education. But one reason seems to come up in every conversation we have with users — that Maple is just friendlier and more accessible than other mathematics software they have worked with. They cite the open source code, the free course materials and add-on packages, the easy-to-learn programming language, the built-in code generation tools, and the open partnerships between Maplesoft and mathematics research institutes.

We worked hard to ensure that Maple 9 would continue to deserve this reputation. New features like MATLAB code generation, a new help system interface, Mac OS X platform support, and a Maplet interface to the ODE solvers ensure that Maple remains the most open and accessible math software system available.

Student packages for Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Precalculus will further enhance the learning experience for teachers and students. And as with every new release of Maple, we continue to support researchers with innovation in fundamental mathematics computation. New features like GMP integer arithmetic, scientific error analysis, and better FFT algorithms will bolster those who take on the hardest computational tasks in the world.

What's new in this version:

  • improvements to working with Standard Math notation and palettes..
  • improved section handling.
  • smoother cut and paste operations, especially involving plots.
  • improved selection handling.
  • improved line-breaking, both on-screen and for printing.
  • plotting improvements, including better behavior on resize and for non-inline plots.
  • improved loading of .mw files into Classic Worksheet Maple.
  • improvements to invoking context menus, using the Operations (Context) menu.
  • Maplet applications sometimes appeared with their mathematical content missing. This problem has been corrected.
  • Large output display improvements.

Maple Reviewworks fine - Version: 12.0, 10/3/2008 06:32AM PST

we were required to use it for school, and version 12.0 works fine I have never had it crash though it can be a slow start up ~15-20 seconds :( . The software has some weird commands and conversion issues but once you figure them out maple is great, I started doing my homework for other classes with it as well and it really speeds up the process.

What's the buggiest math software?

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Unique Maple bug data not available elsewhere.

Crashes. Absurd results. Math roulette clanging.

Simple made challenging by fragile Maple kernel.

750 pages of selected Maple 12 bugs.

The beta 0.2 of the first world's document written
by a human in a close cooperation with a successor
of the GEMM machine, our unique VM automated testing
expert system which is a failure prediction oracle.

To be released in max 2 months after Maple 12 release.

" Main Maple's Quality Results

1.

Maple 9.5 is an unstable, inconsistent, non-linear, non-uniform,
randomized, self-incompatible environment where fundamental math
properties (uniqueness of the answer for a good-defined problem
commutativity and linearity property etc) now hold, now fail
making Maple breaking down grotesquely."
