Product Description:

What makes BreakQuest so special? In a word, physics! Balls of different sizes bounce off springs, dampers, and bumpers of every shape and size. Bricks hang, fall, grow, shrink, appear, vanish, interact with other bricks, and even shoot back at you! 100 levels, every one with a different theme; 10 different player ships; 9 weapons; powerups galore, good and bad. Cool sound effects and an extended sound track from the established gaming music group "Maniacs of Noise" perfectly complement vibrant visuals and create a totally immersive playing atmosphere. The demo offers eight levels out of 100, but barely scratches the surface of what this game can do. The full version not only has more variety, but also includes an unlockable arcade mode that lets you set up the game as you like: adjust ball speed, configure scenes, change bumper size, customize power ups, select what scenes you want to play, and much more. Incredible replay value. GameTunnel says: "BreakQuest may be the best Arkanoid game in existence." RetroBlast.com's reviewer says: "I love BreakQuest. Absolutely, positively love it. A can't-stop-playing though-it's-3am kinda love."

BreakQuest ReviewIntensely addictive - Version: 1.0.3, 9/17/2005 10:29PM PST

The shareware fee is a rounding error in my checkbook compared to lost productivity coinciding with my discovery of this game... d

About the only boring thing about this game is the long start-up process; also, I'm looking forward to a selection of window sizes, rather than the single small one I'm stuck with if I want to play in that mode.

multiball, Multiball! MULTIBALL!!

Well done. I've been waiting for such a good version of Arkanoid. I love the way the physics work in this - altering the properties of the barrier, the shape of the ball and so forth. However, it is quite graphically intensive, but it does run fast enough on my iBook, and of course the G5. A goos option for the developers might be to give an option for an "ultra lean" mode, where the graphics are stripped right back to the basics. This would enable the game to run on even older hardware, and have a greater audience, or to allow those with more modern systems to get the most responsiveness.

I always liked playing Arkanoid with actual rotary paddles on my Commodore 64. I don't like playing with a mouse so much. So, I may build my own paddle just for this game. Of course, if anyone knows any off-the-shelf rotary paddles that are good value, I could just buy one.

Kudos also for the developers having a cheesy backstory told in cartoon panels. However, I do miss the cheesy space-based Arkanoid backstory, and that giant-Aztec-sculpture-head thingy that ate space ships (and spewed rocks, if I remember some of the levels correctly).

I mean, a game is just not the same if it doesn't incorporate a cheesy giant-Aztec-sculpture-head.

BreakQuest CommentarySame mouse issues as previous posters - Version: 1.0.1, 7/9/2005 04:08PM PST

I can't even select a level to begin playing. The mouse is stuck at the center of the screen, and while I can choose a game type and etc. using the arrow keys and the Return key, I can't manage to actually get to the gameplay itself.

Keep working on it, I really liked the way this looked!
