Sudoku Companion ReviewBackward in usability - Version: 1.4.5, 2/28/2006 01:02PM PST

With 1.4.5's new keystrokes it's hard to play. I used to be able to hold down the option key and move around while I marked things. With the new separation between adding and removing a number form the notes, I now end up pressing CTL then 5 then releasing CTL and moving (possibly after using OPT) and the CTL then 4 then release then move then CTL then 4 then release then move...

Before it was OPT then 5 then move then 4 then move then 4. Lots less press/release. I'm rolling back to 1.4.4.

Sudoku Companion Reviewexcellent software - Version: 1.4.5, 2/27/2006 04:21PM PST

I love this application. It help me practice sodoku. I am now very good player. I like this app as it does not solve the puzzle for you like the other sodoku apps do so it makes it an enjoyable game.

I like to take a newspaper sodoku puzzle and copy it into this app so it helps when making notes so as not cause a mess on the newspaper and once the puzzle is complete you can copy the numbers into the paper so your friends are impressed you finish hard puzzles.

Well worth the money.

Sudoku Companion ReviewBest Sudoku app for Mac - Version: 1.2, 8/12/2005 10:58PM PST

I'm using it for several weeks now and I see how the application evolves. It started as a very well done piece of software and it's getting better with each release. I've never had any problems with. If you are looking for an application that will solve sudokus for you then Sudoku Companion is certainly a bad choice, but if you want to enjoy solving sudokus yourself then in my opinion Sudoku Companion is the best application for Mac out there.

Sudoku Susser and Sudoku Companion are different applications with different purpose, design, look and feel, feature set etc. Also the way how the authors try to cover at least a part of the developing cost is different. I guess that if you try Sudoku Companion you will notice this.

Sudoku Susser is streets ahead in development terms, is FREE (donationware - and I paid), and allows you to drag'n'drop puzzles into the program's GUI.

This looks like a 'Jonny come lately' with no obvious benefit for your $9.

On a french configured Mac, you have to select american keyboard to file tile. You can only file note if you don't do that...

Sudoku Companion ReviewSudoku Companion is the best I've tried - Version: 1.0.4, 7/23/2005 05:41AM PST

I'll admit it, I got sucked in by the free beta. I think $9 is a little high, but I was addicted and in the end I gladly paid. Sudoku Companion works pretty much the way I want. Maybe I just suck, but the daily puzzles keep me busy for more than a day each, so I don't mind that the application doesn't generate its own puzzles.

Yes, Sudoku Companion doesn't generate new puzzles. It isn't trivial to create a good looking, symmetrical puzzle that has an unique solution and still is interesting.

We are working on it but we are sure that we don't want to generate some low quality, easy to solve puzzles like other programs do. There is no need for this since very good and interesting Sudokus can be found at many places in web or in many newspapers. Besides, Sudoku Companion package contains more than 50 puzzles and the Sudoku of the day posted on the Sudoku Companion web site daily is usually pretty hard to solve and will keep you busy for a while.
