Just a quick noted to mention that when I attempt to mount the .dmg file of SpotlightIndexer 0.2.2b, I am presented with an error message that says there is no mountable file system.

Well, since ghostlexx knows what's best for all of us, I won't tell you that instructions for editing the .plist file can be found here:

SpotlightIndexer Commentary- Hidden Folders - - Version: 0.2.1b, 9/10/2005 06:39AM PST

Spotlight knows which places to NOT index because they're written on a PList, which means the list can be edited - allowing them to be Spotlighted.

I'm not going to say where the PList is, because I don't want people to go and start messing about with their system, if they're not 100% certain they know what they're doing.

Works as advertised. I wish all utility programs worked this well. Only negative was that the progress bar didn't work for me... but it did what is was suppose to.

SpotlightIndexer ReviewFixed indexing problems that Apple couldn't - Version: 0.1b, 8/4/2005 09:15PM PST

I've been having this indexing problem, in spades. Many of my oldest document files just didn't show up in Spotlight, not even their names. My tech support and the Apple Genius Bar were unable to solve it, after using all the approved Apple fixes (such as forcing Spotlight to reindex "everything" using a terminal command). They suggested doing an Archive and re-install of Tiger. That did not work either.

SpotlightIndexer did the job! I turned on the log file as it ran, and it seems to manually force an index of each file in the specified folder. Now when I do Cmd-F I can be confident that I'm really finding everything.

It does have some stability problems. Occasionally, it seems to hang and never finish; for that reason, keep an eye on the log as it's working. I'm also not sure if/how it integrates with the "privacy" option in Spotlight. I presume that now that I've indexed everything once, I will not need this program again.

Mail and Spotlight were not searching the contents of my e-mail. I tried all sorts of things including rebuilding my Spotlight database. This nifty utility fixed it instantly! :)
