Veenix Font Tools CommentaryReissued as TypeBook Creator - Version: 7.0, 6/17/2008 11:48AM PST

MeV
Seems they have a new marketing person at Venix/Lake Group. They've repackaged the only tool in this package of any value or use -- TypeBook Creator -- which I think they "bought" from Jim Lewis. _And_ they're now charging $70 for it.

Genius.

Veenix Font Tools ReviewThe good thing about this software is.... - Version: 7.0, 5/10/2007 01:56PM PST

...that after providing them a list of reproducible issues as long as my arm, proving beyond a shadow of a doubt the software is remarkably useless....

... they honoured a refund.

I'll give them a star for not making it too hard to get my money back!

I like the app,and its worth maybe 15 bucks - and if it WAS priced @ a realistic price, this would sell a lot.

Try Linotype FontExplorer X for your font needs.

http://www.linotype.com/fontexplorerX

It's free, plus it does what it says far better than any other font utility for OS X. I have nothing against this software but paying for beta versions is out of the question. This should be listed as version 1.0.3b not version 3.

I enjoy using this piece of software. With the ironing out of a few kinks this is what I will use on a day-to-day basis.
Veenix has implimented many of the items people have asked for (all of those that I asked for) including (but certainly not limited to) the ability to locate the font you are using in the Finder.
Keep the updates and bug fixes coming guys.

Veenix Font Tools CommentaryComing along - Version: 1.5, 6/7/2005 06:33AM PST

I have been watching this utility and see that it is coming along real nice. Still not ready for full time use with me in book publishing, but interesting to see the changes.

Now that OT is supported it brings it up a couple of steps. I would like to see the font type next to the fonts in the font list windows. Its kind of cumbersome having to click on each to see what type of font it is. Toolbar text would be nice, too. When I see icons in the tops of the windows and place my cursor over them, I don’t get any information about what the icon is.

This is coming along nicely. When it is a little closer to my everyday needs, I will be a registered user.

Veenix Font Tools ReviewImprovement - Version: 1.3, 5/31/2005 02:20AM PST

Unlike the previous one, this version does recognize Open Type fonts, finally. But it does not distinguish between traditional TrueType fonts and the DFONT variety native to OS X. This is important information, for instance, when selecting duplicate fonts to deactivate. Font Tools needs a few more improvements before I could give it 5 stars. For instance, in addition to the pale, hard to read font information in the Font Samples window, an icon with each font indicating the font type in the Font List window would make appropriate font selection much easier. This information is important when selecting fonts for prepress work. Font location information, also important, is not available. The most useful feature of Font Tools may be the comparison window where you can line up different fonts one above the other to examine the differences between them.

Despite what it says, Open Type fonts don't show up in the font list. Not ready for prime time.
