Product Description:

MacWise emulates ADDS Viewpoint, Wyse 50, Wyse 60, Wyse 370, Televideo TV 925, DEC VT100 and Prism terminals. Esprit III color is also supported in Wyse 370 mode.

MacWise allows a Macintosh to be used as a terminal -- connected to a host computer directly or via modem. The emulators support video attributes such as dim, reverse, underline, 132-column modes, and graphic characters sent from the host computer, as well as enhanced Viewpoint mode. Features include phone list and dialer for Hayes-compatible modems, on-screen programmable function keys and more (as listed below).

What's new in this version:

  • Paste delay was too long. Pastes are faster now.
  • Alert windows were getting corrupted with strange graphics when you closed a window. The alert window asks if it is OK to close the window or save settings. This was caused by some recent version of OS X (worked OK with OS X 10.4.1 and earlier). Works with all versions of OS X now.
  • Added Reverse Line Wrap option to the Emulate Menu. When this option is enabled under the Emulate Menu, a cursor left command from the host will cause the cursor to jump to the end of the line above when the cursor reaches column 1 of the current line. Only affects VT100 and VT220 emulation.

MacWise CommentaryNo ANSI Graphic Support - Version: 11.46, 10/6/2008 01:36PM PST

WunderWerkz Software
Like a number of other terminal emulators I have examined recently, MacWise seems to be a very nice program for what it does; however, while it does support ANSI colors, it does not support the extended ASCII character set, i.e., ANSI characters, such as are used on PC-ANSI based BBSes. If you don't understand what I am talking about, just use MacWise and go to an IP address like this one, using port 23: 202.128.20.175. As you will see, the ANSI characters are not displayed properly. Now, use SyncTERM, (available here on VT), and see what happens. Surprise! That is the way it is supposed to look! Thus, for the time being, SnycTERM still remains the king when it comes to old time BBSing. Thanks Deuce! :)

MacWise CommentaryMakes My Life Better - Version: 10.7.88, 1/5/2008 08:39AM PST

Once I installed this on my iMac, I was able to get ride of my Wyse terminal. Not only do I have more desk space, but being able to use this on my Mac is a godsend. Rich is so responsive to any problems that he clearly stands out in a world where service is no longer a priority for most companies. I have seem other "terminal emulators", but Rich has clearly refined his product over the years to make it the best. My partner has an emulator on his Dell that provides a very small window with no color options. Having a large window with all kinds of customizations is a real plus when you have to use the product for hours on end.

MacWise Reviewdidn't work for me - Version: 10.7.64, 5/19/2005 09:54AM PST

Tried using this to connect to the console port on a raid subsystem. First launch after install gave me a ton of errors. Quit and relaunched; app froze "checking connections". Couldn't force quit from the keyboard, activity viewer, command line...finally had to reboot my server. Luckily this machine is offline and isn't live.
