versiontracker has posted this update without my knowledge. You can find the full release notes along with information about discounted upgrade pricing here. I'm very sorry for the confusion!

App Stop ReviewFscking Awesome! - Version: 1.1, 5/24/2006 06:24PM PST

Central Scrutinizer--2008
This app is perfect; it's unobtrusive in its menu bar position, and real easy on the CPU. I'm running an old Sawtooth, so it's not the greatest Mac for multitasking. I use App Stop to adjust the priority of apps so I can do more at once. For example, if I'm encoding with ffmpegX, which often takes ~12 hrs, I'll reduce the priority of the encoding processes so I can also use Word, listen to iTunes, and surf the net - all without a hiccup. Now I can put the money I was going to spend on a CPU upgrade towards a new MacIntel.

This is as good as freeware gets. App Stop works as if Apple had built it into OS X.

App Stop CommentaryIcon changes - Version: 1.0, 11/15/2005 07:25AM PST

This is a very nice little app. Personally I use it on my laptop when in the middle of exporting something through Quicktime. Sometimes the conversion takes many hours. I'll let it run while I'm at a desk and plugged in, and STOP it before unplugging so I can use my computer on the train without Quicktime eating the battery. I get home, plug in, and START Quicktime again. (Specifically, I STOP "QTPlayerHelper" and "Quicktime Player").

I too have a minor beef with the icons. Menubar icons are generally greyed out when not active, and go black when active. I too went into the Contents and modified my icons. Now it's grey when nothing is stopped and goes red when something is stopped (e.g. App Stop is "active").

Beyond that minor quibble, this is a great application.

I tried this out, and like the idea, but it seems a little odd using an app that grabs 4% of my CPU to pause items that are grabbing less.

I have a Sawtooth G4 (450Mhz). I'm going o buy more Ram now!
This is a great utility! Thanks for making it free! :-)

By the way, to change the icon just go to the Package contents of the app, And inside the resources folder change the "menuIcon.tiff" to the color you think it's right for you, I changed it to grayscale, Now when I pause some app, the icon changes to red. Great! :-)

WOW! I'm using this app since first release, and it realy rocks! Now seems very stable.
Is much better, faster and unbloated than CunningFox and it's free!
It's allways on my bar, but I can't stand that RED icon where all the others are just black..
Maybe you could offer a choice, red or black. And BTW I love the icon change when a process is stopped.
KeepUp you good work.
THKs!!

No more randomly crashing! It's running strong. I'm glad to see you added the alternate image option for when something is paused. I'm looking forward to seeing the other stuff have left in your todo list for the app (especially support for background processes) ^^
