DashOff Troubleshooting ReportHelp! - Version: 1.01, 1/8/2006 05:07PM PST

What am I doing wrong? I do music on my mac (tiger) so I've tried to download dashoff 3 times. Each time I've gotten a folder that includes another folder labeled __MACOSOX that is empty and an icon labeled Dashoff_101. When I double click on it I get a message about "Classic cannot find a Mac OS 9 system folder on the start up disk..." Thanks for any help.

DashOff Troubleshooting ReportDash Off works as advertised except for..... - Version: 1.01, 8/19/2005 12:25PM PST

Unlike the other feedback which is nothing more than venting about the weakest link in Mac OSX aka, "The Dock", this is about DashOff. It works as advertised. With it you can easily turn the Dashboard on or off as you desire. It has a no-brainer installation and takes up virtually no space on the drive.

It worked great on my Powerbook G4/ Tiger, BUT.... after installing it on my iMac G5/Tiger, the whole thing came to a screaching halt. The system was dragged down to a crwal with all operations timing out. I finally got the disk utility open and managed to do a permissions repair.

This is what resulted.

I don't know if this is directly related to DashOff but since the repair included Widgets, I suspect it did. The system works fine now but I have stopped using DashOff until I can research it some more.

If you DashOff guys are listening, maybe you can fix this.

If you Apple guys are listening, why don't you just put an on/off switch on Dashboard.

The reviews I've seen here are not about DashOff, but about Apple. Please see my full review under the comments for version 1.01, as well as my response to the feedback of Truckstopboy regarding the RAM. DashOff works well, and there is nothing strange going on with RAM. It reduces the RAM that the Dock occupies, exactly as one would expect by turning off an application (or in this case, a whole set of applications). My comments regarding RAM are under his feedback.

Please don't use a product review to voice your distaste for Apple, thereby lowering the rating of a perfectly good product. DashOff does what it advertises, does it in about 2 seconds, and works without flaw.

DashOff ReviewGet a grip, people, This works, and it works well - Version: 1.01, 7/26/2005 09:20AM PST

The reviews I've seen here are not about the product, but about Apple. What a bunch of whiners! This little app does exactly what it says it will do, and it does it safely, accurately, without fail. In short, it works. If you are in the film or audio industry, and you need every shred of system resources, this script is for you. Get it, use it with confidence, and enjoy widgets when you want them. It works in 2 seconds. Just not a problem. I give it five stars. The miserable ratings you see in the early reviews have nothing to do with DashOff, but with people whose real criticism is directed at Apple, with which for whatever reason they are apparently dissatisfied.

When people _has to_ use a third party app to disable something, you should review what are you doing.

There is another company in Redmond making impossible to quit extensions already, one is clearly enough for IT world.

DashOff Reviewjust delete all widgets - Version: 1.0, 5/25/2005 03:09PM PST

the extra ram dashboard takes without any widgets running actually goes in the dock. to stop this just go to /library/widgets/ and delete them all then your dock won't take barely any ram. heres the funny thing though, when i tried this app, disabling dashboard made my dock take twice as much ram as it does when i have dashboard on. otherwise it just seemed to block access to dashboard. just drag it out of the dock, turn the key command off and delete every widget and then dashboard is really gone.

DashOff CommentaryOn or Off? - Version: 1.0, 5/24/2005 07:05AM PST

Just hit F12 and it's off. Yes. But the icon in the dock tells me it is on, and presumably eating up RAM. Checking the Activity Monitor I can't tell how much, but I know it must be and I have no use for Dashboard anyway. I will use this but would really like to know how to find out how much RAM Dashboard itself does use. If I have a widget turned on it will be in Activity Monitor and the average usage is about 20 megs.

What's the reason for having this on/off: just don't hit F12 and it's off.
