Product Description:

Tesseract Trainer generates a full screen real time display of a rotating tesseract - the equivalent of the cube but in 4 dimensions. This app also adds point textures, which give you a feel of what each of the eight faces are doing. There's a stereoscopic option which adds 3D depth to the projection from 4D. I'm very keen to get feedback as to whether anyone can 'see' the 4D effect here 8-)

What's new in this version:

This minor update fixes the registration screen and adds a 'recovery mode' startup for those having trouble.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

Tesseract Trainer CommentaryGreat start! Could be a lot better, though. - Version: 0.1.2, 6/4/2005 03:41PM PST

This is very close to what I wish Apple would have done as a basic screensaver when OS X first came out. Here is how I would improve it:

1. For Pete's sake, make this a screensaver! It serves very little purpose otherwise. If you could make it so it only exits screensaver mode when you hit Escape, then you could still interact with it via the keyboard or mouse.

2. The edges are so very faint. Fatten them up so we can see them better.

3. Give me the option of having the faces filled in with a solid color. Let me specify the color and opacity of each face. It would be nice if I could see it at say, 95% opacity.

4. Let me click the cube to stop its rotation, and click and drag the it to rotate it on my own. Click and shove to start it rotating on its own again.

5. In stereoscopic view, the two cubes are too far apart for me to be able to merge them into one by crossing my eyes.

6. Why do the faces not connect? Is it supposed to look like the cube has beveled edges?

Tesseract Trainer ReviewCool Hotkeys - Version: 0.1.0, 5/22/2005 04:40AM PST

Truly stunning idea and execution! Beautiful! Most of the features I was going to request were found to have already been written into the program when I pressed K for a list of hotkeys. The HCube looks soooo much better in native screen resolution on a Powerbook I can't tell you, and drawing in the cubes one by one really helps visualize what's going on. All I can ask for the next version is the ability to switch on 3-D perspective as I find that isometric view flips my mind inside out anyway and if you can figure out how to turn on 4-D perspective that would even be better! Maybe then I could finally wrap my mind around how this shape works after 20 years of trying already.
