Anacron CommentaryAnacron NOT NEEDED on OSX 10.4.8 - Version: 3.2, 12/26/2006 05:08AM PST

Although this works really well, one should note that it is not needed to run the maintenance tasks on OSX 10.4 (Tiger). 10.4.8 has this feature built-in.

Just an FYI ;-)

There are other solutions that perform similar actions, but this one is my favorite because it does its thing while you can forget it is there. You will only notice occasional HD drive activity when one of the missed jobs is executed. I am very happy that Anacron is now released with the executable as Universal binary.

If you really want to uninstall Anacron (why would anyone want to that?), use the info in the ReadMe in the installer and use Finder's "Go" menu to find the 7 items to remove. (No need for laborious file searches as "Hockpooh777" suggested.)

This is a great idea and most likely it works, but it took me almost two hours to uninstall it and there is very little support. If your going to install this make damn sure your going to keep it. This was not my cup of tea. I'll stay with cocktail.

I get the following message in my systems log:

Aug 7 00:39:12 iMac cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
Aug 7 00:39:13 iMac anacron[1802]: Job `cron.daily' terminated
Aug 7 00:39:13 iMac anacron[1802]: Normal exit (1 jobs run)
Aug 7 08:22:25 iMac ntpd[127]: time reset -0.208214 s

I understand the '...operations not permitted' is normal. But how else can I be sure the program is running properly.

Thanks.

with panther ANACRON works great with DéjàVu - no problems with missed backups because the the mac was not running at this time ...

Install Anacron and you never need to think about the daily, weekly, monthly jobs again. (Version already 3.0 worked fine for me, no indication what has changed between 3.0 and 3.1 apart from the version number.)
