MacSQL ReviewNot recommended - Version: 3.1, 5/24/2008 06:04AM PST

The product can work very well, but v3.x does not support MySQL versions lower than 4.1, and version 2.6, which does, appears to have a bug which prevents it being registered under Mac OS X 10.5.

Apart from this really strange lack of backwards compatibility with MySQL, the vendor ignores support email, and is generally unreliable.

The product is pretty expensive for what it is. I upgraded to v3 in the hope of solving the registration issue (trying to transfer MacSQL to a new Mac) and because I believe in paying developers their dues.

Well, this one deserves no dues. Unless you need AppleScript support, choose Navicat. It is far better, and has very good customer support.

MacSQL CommentaryWhat is with the vendor's website? - Version: 3.0.3, 1/14/2008 03:19PM PST

I have used MacSQL since ver 2.1 and I am very happy with it. I have been trying to get an update onto one of my machines, but the vendor's site has been down for days. I tried calling today and there is only an answering machine after 8 rings. I hope they didn't all go to MacWorld and have a server crash.

Their customer support is non-existent. I have tried to contact them a number of times regarding Unicode and Oracle support and have gotten no response.

The last beta completely broke what was working except for Unicode.

The lack of being able to test this application without purchasing it for Oracle required me to purchase the product in order to test and later find it didn't support my Japanese environment completely. I feel the price for testing, without being able to get my money back leaves me with very bad feelings, no response other than my one contact from them doesn't instill a feeling of customer service and goodwill.

It looks pretty and candy coated on the outside, but it's rotten to the core. Stay away.
