TiVo Broadcaster Reviewgreat product - Version: 1.0, 6/5/2005 02:12PM PST

Worked flawlessly. Installer is a little punchy/slow, but now I'm rolling. Tivo should buy this and incorporate it. And while they're at it, how about Tivo-to-go for mac. At any rate, thanks to the developer.

TiVo Broadcaster CommentaryThanks for Saving my Butt - Version: 1.0, 5/16/2005 06:27AM PST

I was able to use this package to show 99.9% percent of my photos at a family reunion this weekend. Can't speak for the iTunes sharing, but the iPhoto sharing worked great.

Thanks for the last minute save.

TiVo Broadcaster Troubleshooting ReportThanks for this! But... - Version: 1.0, 5/14/2005 11:03AM PST

I was dismayed on Mother's Day when there were no photos to display on our TV/TiVo; it had worked before. I installed Tiger on 4/29. It was not until I saw this in the VersionTracker list that I knew it was a generic problem.

However, the fix does not seem to work for me. I have an odd setup: I installed Tiger in a separate partition on a Firewire drive, and used Netinfo Manager to set up a symlink for my User folder from my old Panther disk (internal). That way, I have access to all my files, but still have a working Panther system (with the same files) I can return to at will. I'll run this way a few weeks until everything shakes down. So, when I ran the first little fixer app, it reported that com.tivo.desktop.plist either was unreadable or did not exist. When I checked the path it gave, which was to my Firewire user/Library/Preferences folder, there indeed was no TiVo plist file there. I checked to make sure the preference pane was active, and toggled some settings to cause an update, and checked again. The live file was named com.tivo.desktop (with no .plist extension!) in my main Tiger /Library/Preferences folder, NOT in the user preferences folder. I made a copy of it to the user prefs folder, added a .plist extension, and clicked the Run button in the fixer app again; it reported success.

I then ran TiVo Broadcaster; it seems to be running. But I still don't see my computer in the TiVo menu.

Anything I can do to get this working? Maybe it won't work till I get rid of the symlink setup and actually have my user folder on the boot drive?

TiVo Broadcaster Troubleshooting Reportcan't use 2 TiVo units? - Version: 1.0, 5/10/2005 01:42PM PST

Hey iDriveX. I sincerely appreciate this fix. Buggy as it may be it brought the Tiger machine back to TiVo! My problem is that I cannot see my Mirror-G4 Music & Photos on my 'Living room' TiVo, only my 'Bedroom' TiVo. I can share recordings between the units though so the wireless is working correctly. Do you have any idea why only one machine would see it?

TiVo Broadcaster Usage TipHow to make it run in the background - Version: 1.0, 5/9/2005 10:14PM PST

In your system preferences, select the application to start up on login in the "Users" preference pane. Now everytime you log in, the app will open.

When the app starts up everytime, a status window will appear to tell you the app successfully launched.

Because of the way I wrote the app, there will be no dock icon and it will not show up in your "Force Quit" items. THe only way to quit the app is to logout or to Kill Process using Activity Viewer.

Once the status window comes up, you can click on it and press CMD+H to hide the window. It is now effectively "running in the background". I don't know how much more "in the background" I can make it. I like having the status window initially come up because if the script isn't working you wouldn't be able to troubleshoot it.

TiVo Broadcaster Usage TipBrossow's Right - Version: 1.0, 5/9/2005 02:20PM PST

iDriveX
Brossow is right. By the time I realized the MPKG creator messed up (I'll never admit a user error), it was too late this morning. I'll fix it tonight when I get home and post on here. It's not malware. The installers work fine, for some reason the MPKG creator didn't pickup the individual installers for the scripts. Expect something by 7 PM Pacific Time tonight.

Oh and there is no product page cause I'm not a real developer. Just trying to help out a small cross-section of the mac community.

You people are all retarded. No, this installer doesn't do anything, but no, it's not malware. The packages it's supposed to install ("TiVo Broadcaster.pkg" and "iPhoto - TiVo Fix.pkg") are missing from the overall installer package. It's obviously a screwup on the part of the developer and I expct a fix will be posted soon. It's a bad installer package, period. Before you freak out and start saying this is malware (a pretty serious accusation) try actually looking at the package first. And if you're not capable of doing that, then you're not qualified to make any claims about this software's intent one way or the other.

Something smells funny here. Seems to do nothing. Wonder if there's something bad going on? His site logs you into .mac e-mail.
