Throttled Pro optimizes your internet connection and provides "QoS (Quality of Service)" to Mac OS X. It provides both ACK packet prioritization and PRIQ priority services. For the non-technical reader out there, it allows for better bidirectional speeds, and allows you to prioritize your internet applications for increased responsiveness and throughput.

There just isn't anything else to ask for. I have to admit it seems a little bit much money to pay for a simple gui to a free cli program (with a startup item), but that's something each individual has to consider for himself. The gui does make for incredibly simple setup, though, and most users can just select the easy config and "go". Anyone running torrents ought to notice an immediate improvement in their ability to use their connection while running their bt client, and they should find they can throttle their client at somewhat higher speeds than previously, to boot. Definitely a useful and effective tool!

Note folks. Throttles 0.5 is still beta software. I am pleased that a GUI was created for it that provides ease of use for those who hate CLIs even more than I do. However, the heart of this program remains Throttled, not the GUI. I have no complaints at all about the GUI and gladly give it five stars: *****
But Throttled itself only gets one star from me. Usually I would not give a star rating to a beta program, but this is an exception. I don't believe anyone should be using Throttled if what I discovered is a universal problem.
BAD STUFF: Throttled turns OFF the Mac OS X Firewall. My testing is only in 10.4.11. I will be further testing in Leopard. Why it does this is beyond my comprehension. The fact that it does this is DANGEROUS. No way am I using Throttled again until this nasty blunder is solved. It comes down to this: The possibility of my Mac being invaded and compromised is not worth minor speedups in Internet access.
Conclusion: Watch this software for a solution to the Firewall blunder. Meanwhile: DO NOT USE Throttled.
Caveat: Someone please find a workaround for this dangerous problem or prove to me that it is harmless. I'd like to champion this program.

This is a great product, an absolute must for those who want to run a Mac OS X server on a limited internet pipe. But if you don't like spending a day or more troubleshooting the program to try and get it to work this isn't for you...this wouldn't have been a problem if the support actually existed. There is NO support, I emailed them during business hours and got no reply. When I paid for the pro version of throttled I didn't even get my serial # until I did a whois on their domain and called them...if you rely on support then you may find it worth your time to avoid this product and all products this company makes as there is NO SUPPORT! But other then that this product is great, just takes some time getting used to how it works. TIP: If you have something like a FTP server which consumes a huge amount of ports like I did and which results in the throttled port being in use you will not be able to use the gui. Instead you will have to download the command prompt version, create the ipfw rules yourself and then start the throttled process yourself. It's not that hard if you don't mind reading the documentation and startup script for info on how to do both...
But again there is no support and since they seem to promise support this is a big no no to me...is anyone there?!
