Ancient_Boii_Tribeand it took hours on the weekly so I canceled. Then ran 10.4.9 combo updater and then ran *censored*tail. After that I tried to print. It read that there were no printers so I went to add, when I tried to add I got an alert reading "server-error-service-unavailable" I worked for 16 hours strait trying everything I could think of. I tried that terminal stuff then tried this. I already had a copy that expired so I had to use AppZapper to trash it then download a new trial. I opened it and clicked on the first thing there to do a root user thing. That did the job and I'm printing. You won't have too many printing problems but when you get one like I had, this app is the ONLY thing that can fix it. This app is worth every penny and more. I'm going to buy it just to say thanks. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS APPLICATION.

Here is an example - Version: 5.0.5 TE, 8/20/2006 06:01AM PST
Ilgaz
So, I got a colour Epson laser printer which you know, heavily relies on driver for performing or heavily relies on CUPS subsystem if optional Postscript installed.
I noticed its driver got updated which is 30 mb in size and having 2000+ files. Of course installed.
After I installed and checked system permissions via OS X built in disk utility function, I noticed 3 directories installed with wrong permissions.
I remembered I have printer setup repair and run its own permissions test.
Here is what you get:
Begin permission verification and repair...
The permissions for the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library are incorrect!
They are drwxrwx---, but should be drwx------
Repairing the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library permissions ... done.
The permissions for the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library/Printers are incorrect!
They are drwxrwx---, but should be drwx------
Repairing the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library/Printers permissions ... done.
The permissions for the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library/Preferences are incorrect!
They are drwxrwx---, but should be drwx------
Repairing the directory /Users/ilgaz/Library/Preferences permissions ... done.
The permissions for the file /Users/ilgaz/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.acrobat.sh.plist are incorrect!
They are -rwxrwx---, but should be -rw-------
Repairing the file /Users/ilgaz/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.acrobat.sh.plist permissions ... done
As Apple disk utility doesn't verify/repair user home directory and of course famous Adobe acrobat reader doesn't check its prefs rights while "self repair", it is completely normal.
It also repaired my prefs folder rights as a "Bonus" :)
Of course you can do these manually but imagine there are 40 documents waiting on queue and you dig those directories with finder/terminal with ls -a
To speak about how advanced OS X print system is, here is another quote from programs log:
"816 files examined. No problems were found."
It is for one printer only without postscript etc installed. Inkjet printers are even MORE complex since they completely rely on software these days even for Ink etc changes.
Well worth $25

BrianKilpatrickEpson tech support's instructions for resetting the printer system, and deleting/reinstalling their drivers from the Tiger DVD were accurate but failed to fix the problem.
Happened across PSR and decided to give it a go. Which step it was that fixed things, I'm not sure (I suspect the deletion of the various .plist files was the ultimate key) but fix things it did.
I may have eventually Googled up enough information to let me identify what and where all the relevant possible culprits might have been, but you can't grok it all with just three days effort.
Tools like this are important contributions. Fix-a-Mac went to the effort to understand the intricacies of the OS X printing system in sufficient detail so that we can have a sufficiently large hammer with a helpful interface and clear documentation.
$25 heading your way from a grateful 'family sysadmin'.
