DoorStop X Firewall ReviewDoorStop X 2.2 breaks Skype if using Leopard - Version: 2.2, 11/5/2007 07:09AM PST

Felix01
The upgrade from v2.0 to v2.2 was quick and painless and everything but Skype seems to work fine with the DoorStop X software firewall installed.

Could the developer, or someone else with more networking smarts than me, describe how to get Skype to work with DoorStop X and Leopard, please?

Some background at the following URL. Similar problem exists when using Skype 2.7.0.49 with the Leopard firewall turned on.

DoorStop X Firewall ReviewBetter than the Apple Firewall. - Version: 1.1.1, 6/23/2006 07:28PM PST

More user friendly interface than even the Tiger version of the Apple Firewall. Uses the Unix IPFW firewall just like Apple does, but is more configurable. Not perfect though, you can not put individual ports and a range of ports in the same rule, so you sometimes need to have multiple rules for one service. Since it uses IPFW and has no automatic features, like Netbarrier or Norton Personal Firewall, it does not have to be open to have the firewall active. You configure the firewall and close the application.

Good points;
1. User friendly.
2. Very stable, actually I would say it is just as stable as the Apple Firewall.
3. More features than Apple Firewall.
4. Security documentation it comes with is the best I ever saw.

Bad points:
1. Expensive, it should really not be more than $25 or $30.
2. A few more configuration features such as one rule for on service, regardless of number of ports or port ranges.
3. For those who want lots of features a better choice would be Netbarrier.
