Product Description:

Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) finally exposes - at least at a primitive level - the ability to attach arbitrary data to files via a mechanism commonly called Extended Attributes. But they didn't actually provide an interface for the users. Here's an interface.

What's new in this version:

First development release. Appears to be stable, but obviously incomplete and not especially optimized. It's largely being put out to solicit feedback.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger compatible)

Geat Developer NoteBad news re: Spotlight - Version: 1.0d1, 5/3/2005 04:48AM PST

Apparently as currently implemented there's no viable way for a third-party to provide Spotlight indexing for arbitrary files. Eagle is not dead; I will be addressing the bugs and other issues in the editor. I just can't apparently make them searchable at this time. I'd very much like to hear suggestions for improving the usefulness of this package until/unless Apple changes Spotlight's behavior.

Geat CommentaryNice idea - Version: 1.0d1, 5/2/2005 03:47AM PST

Good idea to get in there early. I don't have 10.4 yet, so I'm not entirely clear - will it be possible to search on these extended attributes, using Spotlight/ Smart folders - for example assign a project name to a group of files?

Geat Commentarygreat idea, but - Version: 1.0d1, 5/1/2005 08:24PM PST

My box of 10.4 hasn't arrived yet, but I read about this and wondered how long it would take for someone to create a usable interface. This is a great idea. For those who wonder what this is about, see
If this includes (or will include) the ability to do access control lists, even more coo. I will look forward to putting it to the test.
