Product Description:

LaTeXiT is a small utility that allows you to quickly typeset LaTeX equations, without bothering with file creation, preambles, and so on. The PDF image obtained can then be exported by drag'n drop to any application supporting it. This is very useful to insert equations in presentations made with Keynote or Powerpoint. LaTeXiT also features an application service, so that you can type and transform equations directly in most text editors (Pages, Nisus Writer Express, TextEdit...).

Main features of LaTeXiT are :

  • generated PDFs can be reopened (even with copy/paste) to be modified
  • LinkBack support
  • syntax colouring and auto-completion of LaTeX keywords
  • smart LaTeX errors manager
  • LaTeX palettes
  • automatic history and library management
  • included application service
  • several export formats (PDF, EPS, TIFF, PNG...)

What's new in this version:

  • the MacOS 10.3 (Panther) version will not be maintained any more
  • fixed an incompatibility with the Leopard shell
  • Services work again on Leopard
  • more robust way to handle Services keyboard shortcuts
  • the "detect and typeset" service now supports \begin{eqnarray*}...\end{eqnarray*}
  • it is now possible to import libraries from LaTeX Equation Editor
  • tabulations are no longer limited
  • LaTeXiT is now using Sparkle for updates
  • the latexisation is now triggered by Command+T like in TeXShop; Command+L, Majuscule+Command+L, Majuscule+Command+T still work
  • the default preamble is now using \usepackage[usenames]{color} instead of \usepackage{color}
  • new icon by Jacob Bandes-Storch

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel

LaTeXiT CommentaryPlease enlarge size of visible icon - Version: 1.14.4, 3/20/2008 09:52AM PST

I know it is a weird request, but sometimes (especially on a dark background, and on the dock) all one can see is the tiny inner green part. Could be helpful, in my opinion, either to scale up the inner part, or else add a noticeable icon background. And by the way, I like Latexit a lot.

LaTeXiT Reviewsymbols size in the palette - Version: 1.9.3, 10/4/2006 11:46AM PST

LaTeXiT Troubleshooting ReportProblem with font size during export - Version: 1.9.3, 9/3/2006 04:57PM PST

This is an amazingly useful product. I have found one bug, though... whenever I export an equation (either drag/drop or "Export image..." menu), the font size is increased by one point. I have checked with 9, 10, and 11 point fonts... they always end up 10, 11, and 12pt, respectively. This is both with PDF and PDF/outlined fonts exporting. You can check by typesetting an equation in 10pt, save the PDF and open it in preview, select the text and copy it in TextEdit... check the font size, it is 11pt.

This came up because I'm using LatexIt to make equations for embedding in images in my dissertation. I want all fonts in images to be 10pt when printed, so for now I have to set the font size to 9pt in order to get the right size in Illustrator.

Thanks again for a great program.
