Cocktail CommentarySerial Number - Version: 4.2, 4/26/2009 05:19AM PST

I've bought Koktail TWICE, once as standalone program and once in a bundle.
Now none of the serial numbers are working.
E-mails are bouncing ...
Anyone else had this experience ?

Very useful program.

There are other programs that do the same, but I like this one.

Cocktail ReviewI'll stick to MainMenu - Version: 4.0.2, 7/14/2008 09:28PM PST

For what it is worth. MainMenu is a free app, and it does all of this stuff. Use it along with AppCleaner (also free) and you'll be fine. Both are light weight and do their job well, with a superb interface for both.

Cocktail Usage TipI was wrong...NO additional fee to upgrade!! huzzah - Version: 4.0.2, 3/13/2008 11:30AM PST

There is no fee for this upgrade, and I will make sure to spread the word. Several calls I got from
persons who told me that the upgrade wasn't taking their serial number...
They will issue you a new serial number if you find that your old serial number didn't work, and they will answer your emails. They are very fast at this as well...
They obviously have a good reason to need to issue a new serial number, and this is one of the few
applications where you can assure yourself of this.

Cocktail Developer NoteNo upgrade fees for registered users - Version: 4.0.2, 3/13/2008 09:59AM PST

Version 4 is a free update for registered users. However, all registered users will need a new serial number for version 4. By updating your registration information at

http://registration.maintain.se

a new serial number will be e-mailed to you.

This information was sent to all users in October 2007 but unfortunately it seems that you never received. We are very sorry for the inconveniences you have been experiencing.

Cocktail Usage Tippay again?... try Onyx!! - Version: 4.0.2, 3/13/2008 04:50AM PST

Used it since Jan 2004, recommended to all my clients, who all bought it on my recommendation.
Past tense. Now I will uninstall it everywhere. Dumb, greedy, foolish.
I live in NYC and work in media. Media computer support. For Apple products.
It was not me who recommended to Maintain to re-charge for a product whose reputation alone would have continued to sell many new copies. Certainly I WOULD HAVE gladly contributed to inspiring many more of those numbers of sales after demonstrating many times a day what a great utility *censored*tail WAS....
Reputation is everything...and a utility is not an operating system.
And greed is..greed.
And then there was Onyx!!!

Cocktail CommentaryI agree, but.... - Version: 4.0.1, 1/24/2008 12:00AM PST

I agree the upgrade was a surprise and should have been handled better. But once you get past that hurdle, *censored*tail is still the most straightforward system maintenance utility available. Not as simple as it once was, but then, what is? If you don't like the registration or the fee, there certainly are, now, other good choices available. But *censored*tail was the first for OS X and meant, for me, that I didn't have to learn UNIX after all in order to continue to maintain and support Macs. Version 4 has significant enhancements and improvements, including Leopard support (in a separate addition) so an upgrade charge is not out of line.

Cocktail CommentaryCensored, oh my.... - Version: 4.0.1, 1/24/2008 12:00AM PST

You still cannot use the name of this product in a Version Tracker post without it being clipped by the censor. Kinda silly if you ask me, but I guess too much smut and profanity was slipping in. Though I never actually remember seeing much. I guess the censor just means the admin doesn't have to monitor the site as closely. But it's a poor censor, in my opinion, that cannot be customized for exceptions like product names with no obscene content or connotation. A ----tail, after all, is a mixed drink, from which this utility gets its name, not some obscene erotic toy.
