Product Description:

As the only integrated solution for encryption and backup, Knox 1.5.1 makes securing your files easier than ever. Create as many encrypted vaults as you want, each with separate passwords. Then schedule automatic backups. You can even reformat USB sticks and external drives as encrypted Knox vaults moving files between Macs has never been so simple and secure. Knox uses the Mac OS X encrypted disk images feature, the technology behind FileVault, to protect your data. This means that your vaults are encrypted by the U.S. Government’s new Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 256-bit or 128-bit key length. The AES algorithm is secure, but don’t take our word for it: even the NSA has found its strength to be sufficient for protecting classified national security information. The implication? Your data will be safe whether it's a rogue kid or a rogue nation going after it. And because the encrypted disk images are supported as standard in Mac OS X, Knox vaults--including whole disks encrypted with Knox--can be opened even without Knox installed.

What's new in this version:

  • Knox now works on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. On Leopard systems, you can optionally choose AES-256 encryption.
  • When creating a whole-disk vault, Knox now re-partitions the disk to optimize available disk space.
  • When a Keychain entry needs to be modified, Knox no longer deletes and re-creates the entry. Before this change, a keychain entry could have been moved from one keychain to another as a side effect of Knox modifying it. Thanks to Daniel Beck (beckweb.net) for reporting this potential security issue.
  • The Knox automatic update system had a bug when used in the menu bar mode. If you use Knox 1.5.2 in the menu bar mode, please download the new version manually. To address this, the Knox automatic update mechanism has been replaced with the Sparkle framework.
  • Knox now properly uses a Keychain entry to open a vault even if the vault name does not match the name in the entry.
  • A single vault is now listed only once in Knox’s vault listings, even if multiple symlinks point to the same vault.
  • Knox no longer creates the ~/Documents/Knox folder on launch. It's only created if you create vaults in the default vault location.
  • Various minor bug fixes and UI enhancements.

Moving large amount of files (4 Gb >) into a vault will always encounter some read/write problems.
External drive does not erase vaults automatically and it takes forever to remove it. Unplug and plug back the external drive then you will erase it.
Opening a large vault is time consuming.

Anyways, I must say it is much easier that I just use a straight forward encryption software, like Blowfish.

I have been using Knox for quite a while and it helps me sleep a lot better at nights. My life in on my Mac and I am glad it is an "encrypted" life and in a Knox vault. This program is much more user friendly than Apple's FileVault and worth every dollar.
