Product Description:

This program merges lists of data into text templates to create fully populated text files. The output files can be Web pages, XML files, RSS Feeds or any other varieties of text files. The input data can be obtained from a tab-delimited data file, or directly from a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. You can record and easily play back recorded scripts, making it easy to re-generate your output text files when your data changes. Tab-delimited files can be easily exported from most spreadsheets, databases, address book, and many other programs.

PSTextMerge can also perform other operations with tabular data, extracting and merging data from multiple bookmarks files, address books, and other formats.

What's new in this version:

  • Added Ability to Truncate a Field on the Left rather than the Right
  • The variable modifier of "R" may now be used, in combination with a length modifier, to keep characters on the right (truncating on the left), rather than the default behavior of keeping characters on the left.
  • Converted from Shareware to Freeware
  • PSTextMerge is now completely free.

PSTextMerge Usage TipA great utility to merge duplicate address book entries - Version: 3.1, 6/22/2005 05:31PM PST

GeorgeAC--2008
Over the years, I have used a variety of address book utilities, including NOW Contact utilities, Entourage, OS X's Address Book and Palm Desktop. I now use Entourage as my main contacts repository. The less than perfect mapping of fileds between these various utilities has meant that I've ended up with hundreds of duplicate contacts over the years. Until I discovered PSTextMerge, I used to get rid of the duplicates manually by downloading the data to Excel and uploading it back to my contacts utility. With PSTextMerge the process of manually getting rid of duplicates, while preserving the information contained accross multiple records, is intelligently automated. I find the program to be very handy and reliable.

I have also found Herb Bowie, the developer, to be extremely responsive to problems than I have encountered (which related to the naming of folders under Tiger).
