Product Description:

ControllerMate is a controller programming tool that allows users to add custom functionality to standard HID devices (joysticks, trackballs, gamepads, keyboards, etc.)

Using a highly graphical interface and drag-and-drop editing, users can program controller buttons to perform complex keyboard and mouse sequences. Programming is accomplished using "building blocks". Each type of building block performs a different type of function. Building blocks can be individually configured and linked together to perform an endless variety of tasks.

Common programming tasks that can be performed with ControllerMate include:

  • Configuring controller buttons to act like individual keyboard keys
  • Configuring controller buttons to generate simple text
  • Configuring controller axes to act like mouse axes
  • Assigning an AppleScript to a controller button
  • Redefining keyboard keys
  • Assigning a custom acceleration curve to a mouse

What's new in this version:

  • [NEW] Added compatibility with the World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse. ControllerMate can now set the color, intensity, and pulse rate of the mouse's LEDs.
  • [FIXED] Fixed a bug that caused excessive CPU use by the helper application in certain situations.
  • [FIXED] Fixed a bug that prevented ControllerMate from properly applying mouse or keyboard customizations in certain situations.

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.5 Intel

ControllerMate ReviewWow! - Version: 4.3.10, 5/2/2009 03:32PM PST

If you're a Mac Power User or eventually want to be then this is a "must-have" for your Mac arsenal! In my experience the hardest, initial decision to make about an application like this is whether or not it's worth the time it's going to take me to learn how to use it and transition it into my current workflow. I can easy say that for the Mac Power User, ControllerMate is definitely worth your time. Set aside a Saturday afternoon to grab your favorite beverage and dig in to the ControllerMate help docs, you won't regret it. Similar to those times after you adopted a Mac, when you've found yourself wondering how you ever put up with using Windows in the past, soon you'll struggle to remember life before ControllerMate. Anyone who has ever uncovered the magic of Blacktree's Quicksilver (i.e. all the features beyond mere application launching) knows exactly what I am talking about.

ControllerMate ReviewExcellent! Allowed me to set up F-key volume controls on my Macally full-size keyboard. - Version: 4.3.9, 1/15/2009 10:20PM PST

I have been using a full-size Mac-compatible keyboard instead of the smaller Apple keyboard which came with my iMac. This full size keyboard (brand name Macally) does not have VOLUME keys, which is a problem when I need to mute the sound level quickly to take a phone call or to talk to someone at my desk. ControllerMate allowed me to assign "F" keys to the functions of VOLUME DOWN, VOLUME UP and MUTE.

I chose to configure F1=VOLUME DOWN, F2=VOLUME UP and F4=MUTE.

(F3=FIND AGAIN in Firefox, so I did not use that key.)

After just a few minutes of head-scratching and fiddling around with ControllerMate, I was able to set up this configuration. The graphic format of ControllerMate is very simple and fun, once you get the hang of it. I am looking forward to using this program to configure other functions, if the need arises.

So far, these new volume keys are working for me. If I have any problems, I will leave another review here.

There is a tutorial and a users' forum on the developer's website at http://www.orderedbytes.com/
