Product Description:

This software contains three drills to improve your skills at remembering and recognizing Japanese katakana. You can select the Timed Self Test, the Elimination drill or the Matching game. This is a fun and educational piece of software for Mac OS X, Windows or Linux/UNIX.

This Japanese katakana study aid will run on any OS that has Java 1.4.2 (free from www.java.com). That includes Mac OS X 10.3, Windows (98 or newer, including XP Home and XP Professional) and Linux.

The testing methods used by Katakana 2 are terrible for learning a new alphabet. Two of them require you to use a pen and paper, and the third tests your skills at the Memory game more than knowing which kana are matched with which romaji reading. On top of that, the Matching test tried to tell me that 'ji' was the same as 'zu'.
