Product Description:

This software contains three drills to improve your skills at remembering and recognizing Japanese hiragana. You can select the Timed Self Test, the Elimination drill or the Matching game. This is a fun and educational piece of software for Mac OS X, Windows or Linux/UNIX.

This Japanese hiragana study aid will run on any OS that has Java 1.4.2 (free from www.java.com). That includes Mac OS X 10.3, Windows (98 or newer, including XP Home and XP Professional) and Linux.

The program launches...and that is about it. None of the three buttons, (Timed Self Test, Elimination and Matching), work. Under the "Options" menu, only the "Select Hiragana" option works, and one can select or deselect hiragana symbols. "Set Test Duration" does NOT work. Under the "Help" Menu, "Quick Start" does NOT work, while the other three options DO work. As is, this version of the program is useless. I ran it under Panther 10.3.8. Being an alpha, I will withhold an actual rating for now.

It's written in Java and it doesn't work. It gives you a small window with three buttons, which are supposed to start the test. None of the buttons do anything.

Don't waste your time with this. Check out Nuku -- it's freeware and it's great. I learned Hiragana and Katakana last year using only Nuku (although you do need to practise writing them as well).
