Product Description:

VitaminSEE is an image viewer that focuses on speed. It has sorting features and the ability to add IPTC keywords to JPEG files. It generates thumbnails for all supported image files (these thumbnails are stored in the file's resource fork so the image file isn't modified and so the Finder will use them.)

What's new in this version:

  • Move to a multi-window interface.
  • Windows now zoom and obey the positioning of the dock correctly.
  • Work on UI responsiveness
  • Remove "reload" option; instead monitor the filesystem like the Finder does
  • Move the "rename" option from the Keywords window to its own menu item under File.
  • Fix modification of keywords so that the creation date of a file isn't modified when keywords are added or removed.
  • First Tiger-only Universal Binary release. A Panther compatible build is still available, with a few very small interface bugs.
(Edit Feb 21, 7:30AM: Panther compatibility build updated...so it's actually compatible with Panther.)

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 Intel
  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.4.4 (Universal Binary)
  • or
  • 10.3.9 (Panther build)

VitaminSEE Reviewalmost perfect - Version: 0.7.1, 3/22/2006 12:04AM PST

I'm watching the development of this program since the early versions and think you're doing a great job! I use the program for going through my image database, but actually I never upgraded from v0.6 for the following reason: In v0.6, when one descends into a subdirectory and goes back, the focus stays on the folder, in which one descended. But in later versions the focus jumps to the first folder again. So, when going through a file system tree one always has to remember the previous folder and look for it again in the list. Maybe you could restore the old behavior? I'd also love to have shortcuts for file system nagivation (e.g. go to next folder in parent directory etc). Anyway, thanks for writing a great image browser!

VitaminSEE ReviewVery fast indeed, good start... - Version: 0.7.0, 2/21/2006 06:58AM PST

This looks really good so far, but could use some customization options. In particular, the ability to restrict the thumbnail size (they're way too large for my liking, and will end up taking too much space if I thumbnail all of my photos.) I'd also like the ability to customize how large they are on the file list pane.

Also, I know it's probably tough, but the ability to store all thumbnails in a central database (instead of in the resource fork) would be nice, for those of us who store our folders on network shares.

VitaminSEE CommentaryStill not fast enough for me ... - Version: 0.6.4.2, 8/29/2005 01:56AM PST

I'm still searching for a tool that allows me to browse through a folder of pictures the way I want it. Such a tool must preload and prerender (!!) the (e.g.) next 10 and last 5 pictures from the thumbs area so that going forward/backward is _instant_, even on a 500 MHz Mac, provided that there is enough RAM. Yes, it is possible, but so far seemingly noone has done it.

This is what supposedly all modern digital camera owners do: Wade through the loads of pictures and deleting the bad ones, somethimes deciding which one of three or four almost identical pictures is worth to keep and switching between them _fast_. Each picture has to be viewed and judged, so there is enough time for preloading and prerendering threads to prepare the next images.

VitaminSEE may be fast ... but not faster than GC which I use so far for my sorting tasks so far. I'll gladly pay some shareware fee if my wishes come true ...
