Product Description:

Engineered For Flexibility
modo was engineered to meet the challenges of the increasing demands of film, gaming, television, print and many other markets. modo combines a highly advanced real-time subdivision surface engine, fast, flexible and extensible modeling tools, and one of the most innovative and flexible user interfaces ever created. Due to the flexible nature of the modo toolset and interface, modo is excellent for creating models of any type. From organics to hard surfaces, from high-resolution film models to low-resolution real-time meshes, modo has the tools you need.

Built For Artists
modo was created to fill a void in the production world. Today's 3D modelers require a much more robust set of modeling tools, within a real-time environment, designed specifically for manipulating subdivision surfaces. modo delivers this toolset in an architecture that is designed with expansion in mind. This allows artists to create more detailed models, in an interactive environment, in a shorter timeline. modo's customizable nature allows these advanced artists to sculpt the toolset to their production requirements so that productivity can jump to new levels once the artist is fully established in the modo environment.

modo Commentarycould be great - Version: 302, 4/5/2008 05:01AM PST

marsviolet_dotmac
A powerful but unforgiving 3D program crippled by instability and longstanding bugs, with a customizable but unwieldy modal interface that hinders more than helps, lacks support for standard Mac key bindings such as the Apple key, and in general shows contempt for the Apple Human Interface Guidelines. A wealth of training materials is available online, but the included documentation is simultaneously incomplete and redundant, and the user community is defensive, arrogant and hostile.

modo ReviewExceptional product... - Version: 202, 8/9/2006 12:20PM PST

Modo is quite unique. It's an incredibly efficient sub-d modeler, and was built from the ground up, so it doesn't have many of the "legacy" architectural problems that seem to be evident in Maya and FormZ. What really sets it apart, however, is the company's relationship with its users. The programmers are present on the luxology boards, and their "spokesmodel" responds quickly to issues. Their licensing is very logical and user-oriented. They released a free upgrade (v 202) a couple of months after v 201 was released, and its loaded with new stuff. Well worth looking into.

I have been using the full version of modo for over 6 months now and have been very happy with it. It is now my primary 3D modeling tool of choice. I own virtually every other tool out there (Maya, C4D, Form-Z, Amapi, Carrara, Lightwave, Silo, Z-Brush and a few others). The only other tool that I use as much as modo for modeling any more is <i>Z-Brush</i>, and it works quite differently. Modo is much easier to pick up form a traditional 3D modeling standpoint. Where as Z-Brush is a totally different paradigm all together.

One of the coolest parts of modo for me is that EVERYTHING is a script. You can turn anything you do into a tool or script and save it for later. Because of the script nature of the tool its undo features is also very sweet.

Modo might not have all the modeling features of Form-Z or the animation capabilities of Maya. But it is obvious where they are taking the tool.

Make sure to download some of there tutorial movies. They are very helpful in learning to tool quickly.

Also, I didn't give it 5 starts just because there are still areas where it can improve, but I think it will get there.
