I would just like to tell all of you about Friggin Idiot and its short-term future.

Currently, Friggin Idiot is at version 0.2 and we are working as hard as possible to make Friggin Idiot as useful as possible. I have a new developer working with me, and that's making things a bit easier.

In the short term future, here's what to expect:
Goal (time-wise) version features
August - 0.3 - Integrated with better installers, ability to automatically open downloaded files
September - 0.5 - Better GUI, more behind-the-scences features, an accelerator
November - 0.8 - Integration with iSurf & Safari, built-in download accelerator built for any web browser OR Friggin Idiot
January - 1.0 - Implementation of 10.4 features - automatic updates, RSS reader, Friggin Idiot widget

iGetter can download files and then disconnect and go to sleep, perfect for someone on a slow dial-up connection who just wants to download overnight. Plus, iGetter is free if you don't mind clicking through a nag screen at startup.

I tried Friggin Idiot!, and found that it's just not up to the task. FI is too lacking in features to be useful, IMO.

Friggin Idiot version 1.0 will be released on Monday, May 23rd at 5:00pm. It will feature iSurf integration, including buttons on iSurf saying, "Download in Friggin Idiot." and on Friggin Idiot, buttons saying, "view/download in iSurf."

iSurf 1.5 will also be released.

They will remain free, unlike iBurn, which is really worth it for only $2.79.

Though to most of us this is pointless, there are some this may help and for that I congratulate you on at least trying to help those people... I will rate it on it's ability to do what is claimed and for that it works great.... When I rate it i rate the program as to functionality.... If I rated things according to what I NEED then I would rate almost everything that comes through here very low as most of it I can do with other programs that I already have, so even Photoshop or any other major program would be useless in the sense that I don't need it......this is, to the best of my ability to test, a program that works and does as you claim, Sir, and for helping those that DO have this problem it will be of use... So I rate it a 4 stars rating on those points....

Friggin Idiot! CommentaryDownloading in Safari.. - Version: 0.11b, 4/11/2005 12:59PM PST

Never had a problem downloading.. all you need to do is option+click on the link to download (same as right click and "download linked file as.." directly to your default download folder).. or you can enter the link in the address bar you want to download (example: http://whatever.com/whatever.mp3) and then option+enter and it will download the file to your default folder.
Seems easier to me than typing the link into another program...

the only issue i've ever had is finding the file links when they try to keep you from downloading.. but then that's what the source code is there for! :)

I use iGetter, and it suites my needs. It's pretty lame that Safari has no downloads manager, and Tiger doesn't appear to solve this problem. I don't know if Apple just thinks nobody downloads or what, but it's d@mn annoying. Friggin' Idiot! gets five stars for just recognizing the problem.

Unlike a lot of the people who've submitted feedback, I am sick and tired of Safari hanging every time a .WMV file appears in a webpage, or having the stupid Acrobat Reader launch and stall every window in the browser for a whole minute while it loads a page, even though I must have clicked 'Download to Disk' a hundred times. Also I'm sick of having to check each and every single download because Safari seems to be the only browser that chops the end off files yet still reports them as being completed (sometimes half my pictures are unuseable and I have to re-download them, which isn't always possible if I'm not online or don't have a copy of the address) Also the fact that Safari doesn't have a Download Manager is ridiculous. If I want to download 20 links from a website but the site only allows 2 connections per host, Safari will try to download all 20 at once, slowing everything to a crawl, and then tell me 18 files aren't available until I re-start the downloads manually two at a time. Even Internet Explorer lets me specify only 2 or 4 connections at a time, lets me queue downloads without having them dissapear next time I start up, and it logically only tries to download one page at a time rather than all-at-once which Safari does, slowing everything to a crawl particularly over a wireless connection. Also, why does Safari insist on re-downloading everything when I Save to Disk, when it is already stored in the cache?

Good work making something that works better!

This seems like a solution in search of a problem. Like others, I've never had trouble downloading with Safari.
