SmartBackup ReviewNot impressed! - Version: 2.2.5, 9/8/2008 05:19PM PST

Basically, this product is just copying files. There's no compression. Other than determining what's been updated, I could do the same thing with click and drag.

I began my first backup on Saturday, backing up 20,000 files to a network drive (wireless). After a couple hours, I noticed that it was at 24%. I checked it in another couple hours, and it was still at 24% so I forced it to quit.

On Sunday, I shut down my macbook and rebooted. I blew away the backup files from the previous attempt and immediately opened Smartbackup to try again. This time, I started it at 2:20pm on Sunday. At 3:20pm it had hit the magic 24% mark. At 9:57pm it had made it all the way to 28%. At 7:10am on Monday it was 99% complete. When it finally completed, it reported a number of files that it couldn't copy. No reason given.

To say the least, I'm not impressed!

I'm dropping this review to thank the author of this gorgeous application. SmartBackup is not simply the best backup application around but is supported by a very responsive and courteous developer who solved my issue in a matter of minutes. The program is fast, stable and simple to use and yet powerful enough to meet the needs of the most demanding users. Add to this an invaluable support from a dedicated developer and you come up with the right answer to buy it or not! Fariborz AMIRSHAHI - Verona (Italy)

I use Super Duper, which has just been updated to Leopard. I'm sure this app is also good. Make sure you use SOMETHING. I lost all my data once. It cost me weeks of effort to get back to near where I was before my disk crashed.
