I just find it dumb to pay for an email client and 39.00 at that.

Everyone is trying to make those fast millions making software so they can retire before 30.

Doesn't anyone work hard for a living anymore like I did.

The kids we raised are just way too spoiled.

No IMAP, not worth a look. Sorry.

Balzac ReviewInteresting... but long overdue for an update... - Version: 1.0b23, 6/27/2007 02:13PM PST

This seems like a solid product at first glance. The interface could be cleaned up and made more up to date as it seems to still have the old 10.3 styled look. Having the ability to actually build and send HTML emails is very nice and what originally attracted me to the product since Apple refuses to make their product easy to control the HTML aspect of emails. Still, it's been over a year since this product was updated and his product page on his website shows no mention of future product direction, so be cautious in it's use. Don't become dependent on it in case it becomes orphaned.

I was excited to give this app a shot, but I cannot use POP for the accounts that I check. I will continue to follow this application's development though, given that I too found its feature set very compelling...

I really like the concept of this app, which is creating groups of mail with a filter, but couldn't get it all to work. I was running into several bugs, or non-working features. It's promising, but needs a lot of work. I'll definitely keep my eye on this one.

Balzac ReviewVery Cool - Version: 1.0b12, 3/29/2005 02:56PM PST

I keep waiting for the perfect email client, and I have tried ALL of them. An hour with Balzac shows it to be easy to use and powerful under the hood as well, which is how a Mac app ought to be. Nice slick design (though the icon looks like a pizza with water spilled on it). Maybe THIS will be the one...

I have not encountered any crashing or the bugs listed below yet.

Wonder if the balzacmbox file format is the same as a regular mbox?

Please don't just post bugs here - report them directly to me as well so that I can look into them, with as much detail as possible about what you did in the app before the problem occurred. Constructive feedback is also appreciated.

Thanks for trying the Beta.

Balzac ReviewHmmm, I really like it but ... - Version: 1.0b11, 3/26/2005 06:49AM PST

Balzac has a lovely interface and a filter driven approach to mail. I could really warm to this. But right now I can't get it to work.

For example ... mail that arrives 'today' should be caught by the filter and found in the 'today' view. And this is true for SOME mail. But other mail escapes the filter and appears only in the 'People' view... or somewhere else. So far, I can't figure out why this is happening. (The only way I found one piece of important mail was by looking in my other client.) I'm suppopsing that the view/filter is doing its job, but that it is imposing an 'order' that really isn't helpful.

I've also found that once I have double-clicked on a message to view its full contents, there is no easy way to return to the list view of all messages. I must click on 'replace view' in the search section and go through another dialog box that seems to be warning me NOT to do this unless I am absloutely sure. It's pretty counter-intuitive and clumsy.

On the plus side, the alternate displays of 'default,' 'detailed,' and 'untrusted' mail are all pretty handy. I really liked this approach to message display. Changing from one format to another is quite easy.

I had no trouble configuring my Yahoo account as someone else noted earlier.

All in all, I'd probably give it a try if it felt more 'reliable.'

Works great for me. I do agree that there is a lot to play with under the hood. I especially like the look of this program. Very original.

Looks absolutely marvellous, but, unfortunately, doesn't work. I mean, at all. Mail doesn't send, and it doesn't pick up mail from the pop server (and yes, I have configured it all correctly). Occasionally, clicking on the menu items does nothing. The interface is lovely, but it really needs to work!
