Cannot get it to load - Version: 3.0, 8/9/2005 01:08AM PST

On my standard G5 2.5 dualie, 10.4.2, 3 gb of ram, the game will not load. After I enter my code, it quits, and then quits immediately after I click on the icon no matter what. Upgrading to version 1.3 did not fix this. Any tips for me?
Wonderful! I don't see why everyone's upset...

My framerates are great! I've got a dual 1.8GHz G5 with GeForce 6800 Ultra and 1GB RAM, and I'm running on Insane graphics at 1024x768 with 4x antialiasing.
The only speed issue I have is that there's a noticable pause the first time I go somewhere new, but this is probably unavoidable due to the huge amount of texture data included in "Insane" graphics mode. Perhaps a little more precaching is in order from the developers, or maybe 1GB of RAM is cutting it too close for Insane graphics mode.
Personally, I think the gameplay is great... just in a different way than many other games. If you like scary movies, you'll love Doom 3. The atmosphere, enriched by the ultra-realistic graphics, will scare you. Play it at night, in the dark, with headphones or loud speakers, and you'll feel like you really are trying to sneak through hell.
Being able to hear the audio logs and read the emails of the people who work at the UAC facility adds another level of immersion that hasn't been seen in a video game since the terminals of the Marathon series. You get the backstory, in bits and pieces, as interpreted by the other characters living in it.
Anyway, Doom 3 definitely needs some serious hardware, but once you're properly equipped to play it, the experience makes it all worthwhile... if you don't mind getting scared.

After all the hype about next generation graphics etc it was a big let down.
I got bored with groping about in dark rooms looking for items so I could get on with the action. I dont see that the graphics are anything special but it is horribly slow (OK so they recommend 1.5Ghxz nd I am using 1Ghz but only at 640 x 480 resolution).
I happend to be revisiting Quake 2, a very old game, when I got Doom 3 and I honestly think Quake 2 is a much better game in almost every respect. while Unreal tournament is light years ahead.
