Product Description:
Shoebox is a Mac OS X application for organizing digital photos by content. A sophisticated alternative to iPhoto, it uses Knowledge Base technology to learn what's in each of your photos. Shoebox allows you to organize your photos by date, people, places and things. With Shoebox you can quickly find exactly the photo you want, even if you have a very large collection. Shoebox also lets you surf your photo collection like a web browser. If you already use iPhoto, importing your photo collection is easy. Shoebox comes in two versions: Shoebox Express ($29.99) for home users, and Shoebox Pro ($79.99) for digital media professionals.

- Added a preference to automatically rotate photos according to the camera’s orientation sensor.

- Improved the display of some exposure properties.
- Improved stability when loading thumbnails.
- Interface
- You can now hit return to toggle between photo and list views.
- Added action menus to the categories drawer and the search panel.
- Added a “Copy to Shoebox Folder� item to the Photos menu.
- The “Add to same categories as...� menu item now refers to the most recently selected photo,
rather than the previous photo in the list.
- Languages
- French localization (thanks to Alain Rzepecky and Frédéric Latour).
- German localization (thanks to Martin Kerz).

Nice UI, some great ideas at work. Unfortunately, it's about as stable as quicksand. Not to be trusted! And, despite having been around for several years, it doesn't get better. Me thinks the developer needs a little Cocoa refresher...

apart from stability problem (the app would crash randomly and loose the data you had entered during the session), the missing -- but advertised -- backup feature and the UI bug... this application just breaks down when you try recovering from a backup.
I just updated to leopard, after backing up all the system, my photos and taking care of saving Shoebox database and preferences. After a reinstall, shoebox is unable to reuse the saved database... it just lost the tag data and backup info of 30'701 photos I had catalogued in it.
I already emailed their support 3 times in 4 months with no replies.
This is not worth 30$, not 70$, I won't even recommend it as a free software... even if I was quite positive about it when I first tried it...

- Pre-release software... your data is not safe with it
BUT - big learning curve - almost gave up but found a 3rd party class. THEN, had to move my HD into a new laptop - now Shoebox won't work because it needs a new license key.
Despite NUMEROUS emails to the Customer NO-Service link, ZERO response
There goes that $80 down the drain.
